Way too early to read anything into charts. We wont see the benfit of social distancing yet for at least another week to 2 weeks.

Exactly. Italy which has had much stricter containment measures for longer is still struggling control the number of news cases.

To me there is no doubt we are still in an exponential growth phase, and the numbers are likely doe to statistical anomaly or the testing policy.

That means 785 out of the 10,000 have the virus

10,000 tests does not equate to 10,000 people

It's promising compared to the UK. But we have to double our efforts to try and keep numbers down.

Time to introduce mandatory quarantine for visitors from the UK. So far we are doing well but the powder keg next door is about to blow and our most common point of travel.

Is this a downward trend? A flattening of the curve? I expect the Vintners Federation to call for pub reopenings if tomorrow's figured continue the trend....
Give it a week or so to see.

These 102 people developed symptoms over 7-14 days. It took 3-7 days to get referred and tested and another 4-6 days to get results. These cases are about 3 weeks to a month old.
The current infection rate is far far higher.

Apparently China offered us help and Ireland ignored their offer of help

    Source?

Aren't we testing everyone? Where as say Spain is only testing hospitalisations?

It's going to look to good for us numbers wise that way I suppose

If low numbers continue surely some of our pubs / restaurants could reopen by next weekend ?

Triggernometry interview with a Coronavirus expert:

“Coronavirus questions answered by Dr Michael Head. Michael is an epidemiologist and Senior Research Fellow in Global Health at the University of Southampton”

    Very interesting interview.

Lads the relief I am feeling just for today ,

All we can do is go day by day doing our bit don’t look too far back or 2 far forward

Let’s go Ireland , government should keep pushing tho I think a lockdown about now would work wonders

    Beyond naive.

Don't get me wrong, it's good news, but if we want to have any idea of whether or not we are flattening the curve to any degree, we are going to have to wait a week before the relevant numbers start coming in.

Yes indeed, we're a long way from breaking open the champagne, as it is believed we are weeks away from the peak of the virus - but these type of numbers are very welcome

You have zero information to back up
    “Far far higher”

The results over the last few days are good signs. But we don’t have any real idea for another days yet

Distancing will start to show early next week

Not just the UK. Any country which has a significant outbreak (i.e. that includes most Western European countries).

Not likely. We'll probably need another month of observation.

    This too shall pass.

True. It's either an anomoly, missed cases or people not presenting themselves at this point.
The population should be constantly reminded that numbers sampled on a daily basis can't be used to reflect the overall big picture and that lots of countries had modulating daily case no.'s.

    0 deaths is good news.

I might have missed it but is there any mention of the number of people in 1CU? That is as significant a stat.

13, so while up one, at least not as dramatic as yesterday's increase from 7 to 12.

But that is common knowledge.....Dr Holohan alludes to it every evening.

Surely on the wind up? There are thousands of people out there with it.

I'm beginning to think there should be an IQ test for people before they are allowed on the internet.

If 102 is correct, I think we are doing really well.

Its very good and a marked contrast to the UK where its starting to ramp up.

We can't get complacent and we need to keep an eye on those coming from the UK where it could easily become as endemic as Italy. Personally I'd like to see flights there cut back to no more than a couple a day with anyone coming here ordered into quarantine.

If we closed the country to only freight we'd be back to normal in 3 weeks. But we won't, crazy.

    Good news on the numbers,

Did italy spain or the likes have any decreases before theyve exploded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,355 ✭✭✭joeguevara

People should be sharing these numbers on there Facebook day by day and getting encouraging frie ds to do there upmost to help reduce it every day, Stay in and stay apart its working let's ramp our efforts up

More than likely people would say ah sure the worry is over and leave their hose.

Similar to the mid 20s U.K. lad who was out in a pub and argued that because there was only 200k worldwide, chances of being in a small pub in U.K. was negligible. Followed it up by saying he was visiting his mum for mother’s day tomorrow.

I actually saw a woman come out the door of my local chemist today and spit on the ground :(

What hope have we with maggoty bags like that let loose?!?

Seen a woman come out of the doctors wearing gloves and a mask, only to remove the mask touching her face with the gloves on defeating the purpose.

She then walked away taking the gloves off taking the 2nd one off with her bare hand totally defeating any purpose of them
