Does anyone know why this SARS-CoV-2 is so much more infectious than the SARS we had back in 2003?

If they are both related illnesses, I wonder why the massive difference with infection rates?

That one had around a 10% mortality rate, but infected far less people. And also seemed to fizzle out relatively quickly. (They still don't have a vaccine for that one either btw)

If you got Sars 1 you were very ill very quickly so could not get around to spread it widely.

That's why this one is so dangerous with people with none or mild symptoms spreading it.

The outbreak in northern Italy's skiing resorts was well documented at that time. Wtf was he and his business buddies thinking . Selfish to say the least.

Pure craziness and selfishness. A ski trip in an area that was probably half closed down anyway was worth more than his health, health of family and the general public. But there was a poster on another thread who was off to Amsterdam for the weekend a week ago, and they were doing herd immunity. At the time over 60 deaths. Even worse, they were refusing to follow their employers policy of self isolating for 2 weeks if returning from a highly infected area.

    That's grand

I'll take your your word for it that you can speak Italian.

However it doesn't change my scepticism that such radical measures have been introduced and the English speaking media haven't been reporting on it.

It's actually strange you posted to an Italian (regional?) Paper rather than an English source.

I suspect you have misinterpreted something, I am sure without any intended malice but you were suggesting Ireland could print its own money a few pages back so I'll definitely not be taking your word for it.

There is no evidence I have seen that Italy has made during illegal (how could you if the company goes bust?) or is forcing companies to pay 80% of workers wages (how could bust companies do this?).

These are no small things, the whole world is watching Italy and it seems very hard to believe that they haven't been reporting on it.

So your argument here remains the same - an Italian newspaper is not to be trusted about Italy and only an English speaking newspaper should be trusted. This isn't the best argument I have ever heard.

With regard to "printing" helicopter money I believe the Irish central bank can technically do it, or the banks themselves. It's just ones and zeros, as the man said. That said the ECB might have to agree or else individual countries will be devaluing the Euro.

Saw this flute on linkedin yesterday posting about this. His excuse was along the lines of, well if they didn't want me to go they should have stopped the flights. Grade A tit.

If you listened to the interview they were assured that the place they were going to was safe from the virus at that stage.

But agree with you that they shouldn't have travelled at that stage.

The usual time! They might just release them without a briefing. Assume they'll match projections.

I think the gravity of the measures the poster seems to have made up are lost on you.

Three pages of Google searches now and not.once English report of Italy introducing COVID measures Which involve:

    1) banning forms from firing workers;

    2) forcing firms to pay 80% of workers wages whilst not working.

    Pretty big deals.

SARs only becomes contagious when the infected person develops symptoms.
SARS-CoV-2 (causing Covid19) is believed to be contagious even before people develop symptoms, meaning they could be spreading virus for a few days before they develop symptoms.

I knew I was right to be sceptical.

There was a similar well documented case of 8 Co meath businessmen going skiing in Italy at the same time. There flight to Italy was cancelled but not to be deterred, they booked alternative flights to Lyon, hired a car and drove to Italy. At least one tested positive for Covid 19 on their return. Brainless and selfish.

No the money isn't borrowed, its just created. I can't see any reference to Zimbabwe using helicopter money during their time of hyperinflation. In fact theories of hyperinflation being caused by excessive borrowing or printing seem wanting in empirical evidence, like a lot of economics.

anyway all this is moot in a deflationary period. Imagine instead of deflation of 5%, you add enough money to the money supply to increase inflation by 5%. That gets you back to 0.

People don't want to believe this, but banks create money all the time, when they issue loans.

7 who tested positive had zero symptoms in this cae. A study from the North of Italy in a town that tested everyone said that of the people who tested positive 9 out of 10 had absolutely no symptoms. It is a really strange outcome.

People have evolved to have different immune systems. Have you every had the flu? as in the actual flu? In bed for a week, couldn't give a sh*t if the house burned down flu? No? I bet you did you just didn't notice it. Yet people die from it all the time. Thinks about it, how could you go your whole life without getting the flu, its as infections (maybe) as corona.

In the past 24 hours the coronavirus death toll in Lombardy, Italy’s worst-affected region, has risen by more than by 546 to 3,095, according to official figures.

I haven’t been reading too much today and having a lovely chilled day today. Went for a walk on the pier around 5am, and not a sinner around. Was nice to get fresh air, even nicer that didn’t have to worry about someone brushing past me or trying to stop to chat.

I was looking at Netherlands figures, and they have moved from initaly herd immunity to now social distancing.
They had initally 3 cases in February 27,28 and 29 from people returning from Italy.

They currently are positive tested of just over 3660, with 136 deaths. The one question I have and which is very concerning is that they only have had 2 people recover and discharged. Their critical rate is 10%. Would it have been expected that more infected patients would have recovered by now in the Netherlands.

Surely the stress of going to work and running risk of catching this virus and potentially passing it onto sick or older relatives is much worse than social isolation/distanceing???

It would have more to do with the loss of income, the inability to pay bills, to keep a roof over your and your families head, than the actual going to work that would affect people mentally.

Can anyone advise where to get printed social welfare forms?

I want to change my mum’s pension Payment method to go directly to her bank account. I’ve downloaded the form but she doesn’t have a printer, mine is broken, the libraries and local Internet cafes are closed.

I’m sure there are others in the same situation?

And when this one does actually make you seriously ill, by the sounds of it it's every bit as severe as SARS! Leading to pretty rapid decline and death!

I find it strange that some people can be severely ill with this, and others can be completely unaffected. (Even small children)

I have to say it's great to see everyone adhering to social distancing as best they can...... But what is it with some women(I can't lie it was 100% all women)over compensating talking really loudly and obviously blowing their germs further than if they spoke softer and not as much... It's very annoying when most are doing their best.

Ps: I didn't mean 100% of women,.I meant the few today I've seen and heard doing it were all women.

What are the chances of 7 people in one group having exactly the same outcome 100% no symptoms? Pretty low I would say.

I do understand your point as I have never had the flu to my knowledge. I think the virus may be more widespread than many thing and many may not be aware that they got it. It means that the good news is that it may not be as deadly as we think, the bad news is that we all must consider that we are already infected if we want to prevent old and compromised people from getting infected.

A friend of mine shared a post by Richard Boyd Barrett on Facebook. It said that if you contacted him via Facebook he would send a printed form out. Probably get one more local but if not planning to leave house. Is there anyway it could be done online as I think some facilities can.
