Obviously wearing a proper N95 mask that's well fitted would help in some circumstances, though it's unlikely to in day to day activity. Medical professionals probably wouldn't wear them in those circumstances.

The main point is there's a massive shortage in them, that's the main reason why they're telling people not to purchase them. I have some of those masks somewhere. There are also studies that show the virus can be transferred to the mask and actually make it worse, if it's not done correctly. Realize also that the masks at least the ones I'm thinking of are designed to only be worn once. They could also create huge paranoia for some people who start thinking about masks a lot. Try to read between the lines sometimes.

There are doctors in Italy without having even gloves, and particularly masks and the same is happening in the UK. I recommend you concentrate on the basics and forget about masks. They are not indicated for your activities.

That's an average of 23,000 people getting infected per day, but the peak in the middle is going to be much much higher - you'd be around 50,000 cases per day. There is no conceivable way the health service could handle anything like these numbers without collapsing.

I also don't think you'd ever get the peak down once you hit 50,000 a day, at that stage the health system and indeed the country is on its knees (there would be 500,000+ infectected people carrying the virus) the virus would just keep going until 70% where the experts reckon it will stop.

Its possible the 70% figure is incorrect, new info coming out is showing lots of people get it but do not show any symptoms and more just think they have a common cold. Unfortunately both of these groups can infect other people. It is possible that if everyone is tested everyone gets it.

I haven’t posted here much. But it’s been a great source of info, amusement in a crisis, and a study on human nature.

Still don’t know quite what to make of it all. I’ve seen a lot of genuine heartfelt compassion for others.

A lot of anger, despair and outrage - some deserved, some misdirected.

My overwhelming impression is that because we are all very different emotionally, intellectually and spiritually is that we have all reacted in very different ways. To expect everyone to just suddenly adopt the same thought process and attitude to the crisis is unrealistic. The majority have done their best to slow the spread and protect the vulnerable. The stragglers however (pub goers, group huggers, nose pickers/flickers et al) are going to need a firmer hand. We can direct our ire in that direction all we like - if it makes ya feel better then say it here and get it off your chest by all means - but let’s not make them entirely responsible. That doesn’t sit well with me at all.

The tougher restrictions will come if necessary. And that will just increase compliance and hopefully reduce spread.

My current lifestyle is actuality is not wildly different from my Pre-Covid one. Lucky me I guess.

Because people are immune (have antibodies).

Now there are some that are asking "how do we know this?, someone caught it twice in Japan!" (or something) but it's entirely reasonable. Immunity to these types of virus seems to be of the order of a year or two (it's not like measles for example which is pretty much for life).

What's really tragic is that a lot of these "more valuable" younger people will be the same ones going around thinking they're invincible and causing the outbreaks in the first place.

Yeah, seems interesting that the deaths have been mostly male.

In China, some people, like myself, were thinking it was because of higher rates of smoking in men.

I actually now think that when Trump says China virus is because he hates China. Especially it's leader. This virus (which China are now supposedly almost clear off) is going to ruin his chance of re-election, his personal fortune and the economy.
Apparently Us cases peak is still 5 weeks away with figures close to 20k already. The health care system will collapse. The economy will be hammered.
2 rivals and one is going to be severely weakened while the other also takes a hit but is at least recovering

That documentary didn't convince me. I grew up with the chap singing and adored him. Looking back though he wasn't a regular type chap to be fair 🤔
