In normal times I'd agree but I think western democracies greatest strength and appeal is going to be its biggest downfall during this crisis.

Exactly I've been thinking about this and in other crisis, terrorist attacks for example, in France, London, Berlin, Nice etc the defiant response of showing no fear and continuing to live our lives as we choose has stopped the terrorists from winning.

This freedom compared to a state like China is likely why europe is being affected so badly.

Having said that I think this freedom, even if curtailed at present, must never be taken away as the freedom to live is our greatest asset.

My own 2 eyes and knowing the area that I live in and people that are still going to these pubs. I will tell you sepcifically in a pm if you wish. If there was a way to report this to a public health official I would - maybe there is but i'd imagine that until todays legislation that passed the Seanad and is signed in to law by the President and subsequently evoked, that there isnt a whole lot that can be done with a publican saything things like 'private party' or there is less than 100 people inside. There are definitely 3 pubs in my area that are 'open'!! Short of going in and taking pics or video you will just have to take my word for it as the source.

I can assure you I have no agenda or reason to exaggerate. It is a genuine concern, and as somebody that will be facing any crisis directly in the hospital enviornment (Resuss and ICU) anything that puts the community in greater risk and by extension myself and my colleagues at greater risk seriously p!sses me off.

My Uncle who has significant comorbidities (diabetic, heart disease, COPD) after years of smoking and drinking was in one of these places, with his cronies, and then landed home to my Aunt who also has respitory issues. He couldnt flipping stay away from a pub and did the whole 'sure we're all gonna die one day' Hight of self centered selfishness imo!!

Report it to the guards. They'll take a dim view of this carry on.

Obesity is going to be an associated cause of a huge amounts of deaths in the US once this disease is contracted

Wouldn't necessarily have been the case in Italy China or South Korea, I would have thought. Certainly not to same level as US maybe.

We are self isolating . What's the protocol on taking the kids to the beach to stave off cabin fever. Won't go near anyone , just drive there, let them run around for an hour or two then into the car and home. Is that still allowed?
Just bear in mind just how many other people have the same idea! Went to my nearest beach, people everywhere. Went to amenity walkway, car park full so went for a stroll around the nearby industrial estate. Nobody walks there.

The local supermarket is giving out disposable gloves, then once you're finished your shop, there's a sanitising dispenser at the exit - also have hand sanitizer in the car afterwards.

Where exactly are you getting hand sanitizer from? I haven’t seen a bottle of the stuff in weeks The Aldi in Ennis had a bottle of shower spray at the door to ‘disinfect’ people on the way in. (I don’t think heavily diluted vinegar is a proven disinfectant) and there wasn’t a single bottle of anti bacterial spray left anywhere in the shop, or any shop I’ve been in recently

Just saw Homestore and More have banned anyone under the age of 16 from their shops.

This is a rule I can live with in more stores, and permanently :P

I don’t think this crisis has eroded democracy and freedom in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea in any way. In fact it may enhancing accountability of their givernments

OK thats paranoia, go to the beach, keep yer distance including in the shop, wipe yer hands after using the pump. Pay by card.

Definitely can come across as paranoia. I did say that the person was in best position to decide. But should be done after thinking about different scenarios. But is a little paranoia better than flippant decisions?
