Can anyone tell me again how long covid can live on card, paper packaging? What are people wiping their shopping with? Any tips as to what other people are doing: using? This is important I think.

We are self isolating . What's the protocol on taking the kids to the beach to stave off cabin fever. Won't go near anyone , just drive there, let them run around for an hour or two then into the car and home. Is that still allowed?

At this stage there is no protocol. Have you considered all types of risk. What if ran out of petrol and needed to get it in a filling station. The person behind the counter could be positive. Or the person in the queue. Or if the car broke down and you had to be transported by a driver who is positive.

Is cabin fever that bad at this stage for a trip to the beach. Would an early morning walk when no people around be better. I think taking the least risky option while still remaining healthy is of paramount importance. You are the best person to make the decision but think about scenarios rather than best case.

So its now a week since the "lockdown" and by not going out bar to the supermarket if I catch it now it's because of some knacker in the supermarket invading my space!

Heard of one guy in Carrick on Shannon who was in Tesco. Staff couldn't give him a product he wanted as it was sold out so he spat at them. They should have had him arrested and charged with assault.

In this day and age we have phones, video calls, texting.
Those young people could be responsible for an older personal getting infected and dying.
Of course as long as they don't know about know they caused the death it doesn't really matter does it?!

Technology can't replace face to face meeting.

Maybe they need to introduce a minimum spend to reduce the numbers even more.

If we miss Leo's target by 10,000 by the end of the month, it is a sign that everything which has been done worked, rather than wasn't needed.

No, take a look at some of charts and projections. Or take todays number and increase by 30% each day from the previous day it will get to 15,000 quiet fast.

The local supermarket is giving out disposable gloves, then once you're finished your shop, there's a sanitising dispenser at the exit - also have hand sanitizer in the car afterwards.

We are not China and hopefully never will be.

In normal times I'd agree but I think western democracies greatest strength and appeal is going to be its biggest downfall during this crisis.

Thankfully, he'd have to invade your space for 15 minutes to make any difference, so the actual trolley/basket is your biggest danger there!

Eh, no. That 15 minute thing is bollix. If the fcuker coughs on you, then you might catch it.

    source?

My own 2 eyes and knowing the area that I live in and people that are still going to these pubs. I will tell you sepcifically in a pm if you wish. If there was a way to report this to a public health official I would - maybe there is but i'd imagine that until todays legislation that passed the Seanad and is signed in to law by the President and subsequently evoked, that there isnt a whole lot that can be done with a publican saything things like 'private party' or there is less than 100 people inside. There are definitely 3 pubs in my area that are 'open'!! Short of going in and taking pics or video you will just have to take my word for it as the source.

I can assure you I have no agenda or reason to exaggerate. It is a genuine concern, and as somebody that will be facing any crisis directly in the hospital enviornment (Resuss and ICU) anything that puts the community in greater risk and by extension myself and my colleagues at greater risk seriously p!sses me off.

My Uncle who has significant comorbidities (diabetic, heart disease, COPD) after years of smoking and drinking was in one of these places, with his cronies, and then landed home to my Aunt who also has respiratory issues. He couldnt flipping stay away from a pub and did the whole 'sure we're all gonna die one day' Hieght of self centered selfishness imo!!

That would be the right way to go about it. Keeping your distance and all that. Keeps us all safe.

Germany have over 4.5k today and still only two in ICU, Don't think that can be right if we have 12?

I get so frustrated when I see people calling for lock down.
The government are not saying it in so many words, but read between the lines.
We need to slow the spread.
Slow it down. Not Stop it.
There is no point stopping the virus unless we close the borders and don't let a single person in or out ever again. Or until we have a vaccine in 1 or 2 years. Because even if we get to 0 cases after a lock down. As soon as its lifted, holidays will happen, the spread will start again.
It's about flattening the Curve not stopping it
We need to catch the virus so we can build immunity and protect the vulnerable. We are taking the measures because if we all catch it together then the hospitals will not cope.
However if we all catch it at different times, the hospitals will cope and lives will be saved.
In either of the 2 models the department presents to us, there is never a less amount of people who have it. There may well be a lock down, but it will be after a certain amount of us have already got it.

Ok then - do some maths.
    • 5% of people who catch covid-19 will need critical care.
    • At max our hospital system can deal with 50 new critical cases per day.
    • So we cannot have more than 1,000 new cases per day without overloading the health service. (1,000 people catching the virus means 50 of then need icu)
    • There are 4.9 million people in Ireland 70% of them would need to be infected for 'herd immunity' (3.43 million)
    • 3,430,000 / 1,000 = 3,430 days (9 years 5 months) of lockdown

Obesity is going to be an associated cause of a huge amounts of deaths in the US once this disease is contracted

This might sound stupid but you have to be taught how to take off contaminated gloves as you could easily contaminate your hands while taking off the gloves.
