There are others places in Asia haven't experienced full lockdowns, such as Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. But I think the differences in these places are:

    1) EVERYONE wear masks
    2) Some form of border restrictions
    3) Testing and contact tracking
    4) Social distancing in restaurants
    5) No school in HK, Macau since January (after Chinese new year)

So we have a choice, Chinese lockdown models or the above. but we have to make one soon

    BTW forgot to say:
STRICT enforcement of quarantines of foreigners and suspected close contacts of infected person

39 people dead in The UK today. Their approach to this is frightening.

Holland is worse, crazy death figures for such a small and affluent country, normally to the forefront in adapting to challenges. Mad about skiing though so probably thronged the north of Italy last month

Worthwhile listening to this, a number of his travel group tested positive and none showed any symptoms while in isolation. 7 days in the mater and 7 at home.

    An excellent interview and insight

    https://www.eastcoast.fm/podcasts2/podcasts/the-morning-show/episode/wicklow-man-tells-east-coast-fms-morning-show-about-his-experience-after-recovering-from-covid-19/

Great interview. Shows there is probably serious amount of cases out there.

More convinced I have it now. Past the infectious stage and am self isolated by doctor until late next week. Tight chest and laboured breathing is main symptoms for me.

Some of them are doing takeaway and delivery to keep staff on the payroll.

And some are still open. Restaurants haven't been told to close to diners

I think the Dutch and the Brits have one thing in common though, they are extremely arrogant people. They'll probably continue on with their current policies.

I am wondering how it's so different to our own?

When you compare population size, to date their death rate has been considerably higher, let's hope we can keep ours as low as possible.
Their infection rate only looks lower as they are testing less than were. I have a friend who works for a local authority in Scotland in a department that looks after the needs of the elderly in the community. He reckons the UK is several steps behind every other country in Europe when it comes to the strategy their taking.

Did you ask your GP to get you tested since?

BBC news have a runner on the screen bottom which states "death rate in Iran is 1 person per ten minutes! WTF:eek:

There's countries with more than that at the moment. Italy have been averaging about 3 deaths every 10 mins the past few days.

Spain's death rate in the last 24 hours is higher. They have had 210 deaths in 24 hours so that works out at a death every 7 minutes.

You cant make any kind of assertion like that based on 3 deaths really, it is just too small a sample. Maybe in a week or two time you could realistically judge which country had a better response

Yeah he was very well spoken. Goes to show anyone could have it and have absolutely no symptoms as happened in this case.

I'm also convinced a family member had it last week. Had the majority of symptoms, headache, cough, chills etc Wasn't tested as they weren't abroad. None of the rest of us got whatever it was.

Old colonial attitudes. Like the 80yr old idiots on the news refusing to self isolate because that would be letting the virus win.

You're misinterpreting the stats. 3 isn't the sample...

The Dutch get caught out with a big cluster, around a hospital I believe, and were too lax in addressing it.

I had cough for two weeks before that so he said I would be past infectious stage and would probably show negative anyway.

He said more cases to be prioritised for testing which I agreed with.

Interesting Twitter thread. All of the comments have a similar story - terribly sick in the winter, fever and struggling to breath, all tested negative for the flu and a number had pneumonia. I'm still convinced this has been around a while.
This also lines up with the theory many people have no symptoms.. maybe because they've already had it?

No most countries are taking an immunity approach including us. Holland and the UK are the only ones with the bright idea to try it without any controls.

100% I was floored for over a week and if it was now I'm sure I'd have been tested. Got my flu shot in october as well.

I had the cough for at least 2 weeks after the fatigue had gone.

We kept referring to the ECDC and WHO guidelines and followed them. They did something different and only lately decided to follow the rest of the world.
