    No country anywhere is advising the general public to wear facemasks if not affected and I've looked a good few countries offical health advice and the WHO.

    Wearing masks and gloves does not achieve anything and is not necessary.

    So Bavaria have just announced the Curfew on us that we were pretty much expecting. Big restrictions on when one can leave the house. Some of the stores like DIY which had been allowed to remain open now can not. Including Hairdressers, though I am still unsure why they were ever on the exemption list in the first place.

    Reasons for the curfew and lock down given by the local government here included "Corona Parties" which I expected and.... one I did not hear of or expect to hear before now..... apparently groups of youths who were "Coughing on Old People for fun".

    Re masks, as a general member of the public, wearing one will not do you any harm and may provide some protection.

    The need to dispose of them after use applies largely in a CLINICAL setting, where there's a good chance the wearer has exposure to the virus or is in contact with vulnerable people.

    The general public should not stockpile disposable or any other masks, but if you have one already, using it will do no harm.

    Similar situation with some other Medical Equipment plants in Ireland.

    I know of one plant in particular that has 1 line that manufactures a form of respiratory stent.
    The usual shift is days only, with the current demand for the respiratory stent.
    Shift pattern has been doubled and staff are volunteering to ensure that this particular line stays operative.

    The bottle neck now in their getting product out to hospitals is, getting slots in their sterilization provider.
    1 provider of that particular service in Ireland AFAIK, and they are getting slammed with the product reaching them.

    The freight and logistics in this emergency really are a bloody wonder.
    I know a lot of folk in SCM at the moment who are working absolutely mental hours to keep both medical supplies and food and essentials moving.

    Portugal is trending almost exactly the same way as Ireland is . 234 new cases today, probably what we will roughly report today as well.

    Portugal is the 18th country worldwide to reach 1000 cases

    Agree totally. Same here. Just be sure to sanitise hands before putting on mask, and sanitise hands BEFORE and AFTER removing mask.

    Look at Asian cities where masks are mandatory like Macau. The spread has been well under control.

    Even Prague has made it mandatory to wear a mask or a scarf when you are out.

    If everyone wears a mask, community transmission is minimised (as in the case in Hong Kong when most new cases are imported) Anyone can be a silent carrier.

    Just a thought, I wonder if and when more stats are availiable will there be any correlation that could be drawn between CoVid19 infections resulting in death or serious illness and the amount of smokers in a country?

    Governments won't recommend face masks because the minimum grades like n95s or n99's aren't available. Might as well recommend people hide out on the moon. Great idea but not possible.
    Personally I'll be using my n99s while I shop going forward. And before someone asks, I do know how to use them.
    Surgical masks tho aren't worth a fuk. Don't let the scammers take your money for em.

    Asians have a culture of wearing masks when they have colds to stop them spreading it to others.

    It's not about them thinking "I'm wearing a mask, so I won't get the virus" and that's what many people here think.

    That's the point I'm trying to get across.

    These counties have been the best at dealing with this pandemic and they have history with SARS. The only reason western governments are saying to not wear masks is because there is a shortage, but don't be fooled into thinking they do not help.
