Christ !!! We could be looking at 60/70 K NEW cases a day at that stage...

More than likely not as that would envolve testing 100000+ a day and that wont happen i dont feel

When did Ireland get its first case? You mean 1st positively tested case? At that stage it was too late. In reality, the first case was probably here weeks beforehand. If it was so easily avoided why are there 140+ countries with cases? Are Leo and FG in charge of all those countries too?
1st March was our first case.

Sincere question, have you any fear at all, that someone would dox you , report you to your job?

    Report me for what?

I haven’t broken any laws. Everyone in work knows why I was off. They were asking me how I got on with Cheltenham, I tagged myself in the pub on Facebook each day and was tagged in pics at my aunts 70th.

In what way is 15,000 a 'worst prediction'

Here's what Leo Varadkar actually said:

so far the number of cases in Ireland has been relatively small.

However, we believe that number will rise to 15,000 cases or more by the end of the month and rise further in the weeks thereafter.

The vast majority of us who contract Covid-19 will experience a mild illness… but some will be hospitalised and sadly some people will die.

We cannot stop this virus but working together we can slow it in its tracks and push it back.

We can, as you have heard by now – flatten the curve. But only if everyone takes sustained action. Nothing less will do.

From this statement you can also conclude that the official Irish government policy is the same as the Dutch policy (ie the policy the UK abandoned) of flattening the curve and slowing it down (rather than suppression).

Maybe the Irish government have a different model to the UK one (if they do they haven't shown it to anyone)?
15,000 without mitigation. There are measures in place so it may not hit that.

disagree completely esp for people who don't have any sanitiser and are out and about. disposable gloves are a life saver. put them on before leaving the vehicle, do your shopping and dispose of them into bin before hopping back in vehicle. the door handles won't even be infected them.

i believe the only reason why there is a message against mask wearing is because there are none available to buy. if they don't work why are they mandatory for anyone going outside in china or south korea? anyone i know who works in pharma or biomed tells me to wear masks at all time when venturing outside.

The problem I see with the gloves is the amount of people wearing them but still using their mobile phone, their wallet/purse, hands in pockets, touching face, hands in hair, etc....
They are only a good idea if used correctly.

We really need to lock down, we are in last chance saloon, some people are not abiding and wandering around in groups and arranging to meet friends, they are indirectly contributing to the spread and ultimately partly responsible for deaths.
Very positive news emerging about treatments using ant malarials and then some new drugs, we need to grind this out for 4 weeks so we can reduce deaths and start getting these drugs, some of which are already in plentiful supply and very cheap to make because they are around decades! EVERYONE has their part to play in this!!!

Heard an FDA official on Bloomberg saying the drug trump was referring to can’t be used as it has not been tested and no Proof it can do anything meaningful.

The French have used it with very good result( only used on a small number at the moment ) and the British have started using it today.

Big surge in cases appears to be linked more to the big surge in testing than anything else. It could take 10 days of increases something like a doubling every three days before it plateaus and the benefits of social restrictions are seen

These were the figures i guessed over a week ago.

    480 by Thursday after paddy’s
    960 by mothers day.

Still think we are heading for 1k cases by Mother’s Day but I would like to see the numbers of tests completed, the positives and negatives on a daily basis before we know of its in decline.

Leo, fg and the outgoing/caretaking government got us into this sh*t. The day the island of Ireland got its first case was the day they should have put a stop to flights coming in from the known European hotspot at the time. There was no quarantine measures either. People were told to self isolate if they show symptoms. They got us into this and the mess that is going to unfold here.

    Ffs.

Where to start. You do realise that people are still going out and about and to work etc. We're just being more careful and trying to prevent transmissions. We cant just press pause and stop working or leaving the house.

What's your solution or suggestion? We need to maintain a balance. Absolutely no need for a complete shutdown or lockdown.

Yes - It's what we typically all do but we are changing slowly.

Nice smart watch with G'Pay would be hand alternative to using a wallet :pac:

Holohan says that's without mitigation and that the effect of the measures will not be clear for about another 10 days.

    Have you link to that?

Does he mean without further mitigation?

Because Leo corrected a reporter who said 10k and Leo said no 15k.

No we dont. Regardless of a complete lockdown the same idiots will continie to do idiotic things.

I would argue a complete lockdown would put to much pressure on frontline services. It would just be anothet measure they'd have to try and enforce.

We dont need a complete lockdown. Enough people are already out of work without a total shutdown.

Or just wear one glove, have a clean hand and dirty hand.
The dirty hand touches the trolley, doors, etc.. the clean hand for your wallet, phone, scratch your face, etc..
Slide clean fingers up the inside of the dirty glove to remove.

They'd better get up to date with the testing so. It is the clearing of backlog that is causing today's massive rise.
Still loads of people waiting to be tested.

If wearing them makes you feel better go ahead. All I am saying is that as someone who is actually trained in aseptic technique and how to wear gloves and masks I am seeing most people doing things which makes the gloves and mask practically useless.

I work in Biopharma so this is the basics to me. I don’t go around telling the general public to buy masks for a few reasons. Most masks are not high enough grade to protect you against viruses, the masks that are high enough grade are needed by the health service and lastly general public don’t know how to correctly put on their masks.

Trump mentioned a couple of drugs and indeed 1 is still being reviewed however the other 1 as you state is around decades and indeed is very cheap and tests were very positive with people recovering. Trump would love a new US wonder drug to be approved of course for obvious reasons!!
