Try changing a nappy while socially distancing yourself from the baby... It's a bit tricky...and messy!

Of all the things we need a robot developed for, that task is it!

my understanding is that its 30,000 testing kits, they can carry out any amount of tests. id say it processing the results that will cause an issue.

Staying under 30% increase each night is seen as a measure of success for us. Last night was 25%. A day on it's own doesn't mean anything and there's the variable of tests conducted.

How and ever we have 366 cases in the republic, 30% of that is 110.

So 110 is the figure to look for tonight. If we continue at 25% increase we'll have 92 new cases tonight. It would be 2 days in a row.

Other variables are the length of time it takes for lockdown to have an effect, incubation period, the Cheltenham and other returnees from abroad...when will we see their virus symptoms and if/when they passed it on hitting the figures.

And of course anymore deaths. But 110 is a figure to keep in mind.

How can we be sure this is accurate if we don’t know if people are being tested in a timely manner? Is there any information on how many people have been tested so far in Ireland?

Could they lot do it around lunch time .. any particular reason for this.

Because I imagine the people doing the press conference are quite busy during the day and don't have the luxury of complaining about things online.

Why the hell does it matter a damn to us if German figures are believable or not to some here, or even in reality.

If you're going to spread such 'concerns' it is only reasonable to expect some attempt to indicate why it should bother us.

If your determined to worry about something, worry about the lack of sunset clausing in the legislation currently going through the Dáil.

Are you planning to change your plans for the day based on the numbers?

I'd prefer if they picked one time and stuck with it, and then the effing news channel switched over at the start of the briefing.

I assumed a kit had multiple, but not unlimited, uses.

Can anyone with the knowledge answer?

Have to say FG and the health service are playing an absolute blinder here, put aside the politics and recognise when a good job is being done.

    Nope.
Health Care workers are playing a blinder.
FG and HSE leadership messed up for the first few weeks and were still advocating freedom of travel from hotpots, no isolation for those arriving back until they displayed symptoms, didn't want to cancel the parades and warned towns not to cancel their parades or close their schools. Not to mention asking the IRFU to cancel a rugby match but they themselves being too afraid to ask for the flights bringing Italian fans to be cancelled. If it was left to FG, there'd still be flights from Northern Italy. Good job the airlines decided to cancel them eventually.
    That's certainly not a blinder.

Are any of ye taking a 2-3 hour Corona break during the days now? I'm setting aside evenings after 6pm where I won't look at or watch news - just a decompression time from all the stuff going on. I don't think it's healthy for any of us to be following this 24/7 especially with the always on mentality we have these times.

Where do people find out how many people have been tested in Ireland or is this information available to the public yet?

I saw countries giving breakdowns of how many people tested and how many of those test were positive for Covid19.

Where can we see this? Would be interesting to know the amount of people being tested versus the amount of confirmed cases

It should definitely bother us whether or not Germany does a good job at containing this. The capacity of Germany to deal with the disease determines when others can freely travel to and from that country. It's way more important for us in relation to the UK, but Germany is pretty close as well. Seeing that Germany basically runs the EU, it would also be nice to get some leadership from that quarter instead of Merkel saying that she expects 30 million cases.

Germany has done a far better job of isolating its elderly. There are other reasons too. Italians would likely have more regular extended family gatherings for dinner and the like. Possibly more smokers too. The Italians don't even bother treating most elderly now in Italy, whereas the Germans aren't that overwhelmed.

There's crucial lessons here for us. We definitely want to follow the German model.

    A question to all :
Why Germany is so good at curing coronavirus, and not so at curing flu ?

Spiegel article dated 21 February: 130 deaths by flu

Trump is not getting in for a second term, not a fúcking hope once the dust settles on this thing.

The Democrats could put up Bill Cosby and they will win it at a landslide.

Both the HSE and FG were clowns initially. Absolute idiots.

That's in the past though. FG is currently providing good leadership, clear guidance, and strong measures to combat the outbreak, while the HSE is gearing up its testing and capacity to handle large numbers of cases.

Absolutely agree with you on this - he's like Chemical Ali running the US at the moment, a witless incompetent clown of a man who has doomed hundreds possibly thousands to death through sheer inability to not act like an asshole. **** Trump, and best of luck to the US citizens because I wouldn't want an imbecile like that running my country in a time like now.

I agree with you about the northern country thing.
As its a novel virus we don't know much about it, but there does seem to be something in the north-south divide.
Maybe northern Europeans, particularly the older population have a stronger immune system. Maybe something like this affected northern Europe 40 or 50 years ago and they have immunity since. Maybe the Germans isolated their people better. It really does need more study.

If the US were the first to develop an effective new treatment for this virus in the weeks ahead, it would not surprise me if Donald took credit for it and off the back of it possibly got re- elected.

I fear many not "in denial" had nothing to do in the first place or are guaranteed no financial burden as a result of any of thi. The hardship that will be caused for most people as the economy is allowed to crumble before our very eyes, hundreds of thousands of jobs are lost and whole sectors are wiped out will be far more than actually catching the virus, which is a minor illness for the vast majority who catch it.

I'll definitely be seriously impacted financially, was about to start a self-build, so that's out, holidays etc are out for a few years and I'm no spring chicken, possibly lose my job altogether.

All that doesn't change the facts that cannot be denied I'm afraid. I presume you're personally in a low risk bracket. You might feel differently if you were vulnerable to death by this bug or had very close family who were.

Agree if you're being ironic, not sure as I missed the build up messages.

We are a 'northern' country, we are in the EU , otherwise we are not just like them, eg our concepts of accurate data and classification differs.

We have approx a third of the critical care beds per '000 population, and (if relevant) reverse ratio of 'O' to 'A' ratio of blood group distribution.
