Why is the death rate in Germany so low. Over 12000 cases but only 28 deaths.

mortality rate is not a true picture when people can't get tested and others with it are not even looking to get tested

Correct, it's even better news because there are a lot more than 366 cases so the percentage is actually much lower.

I asked this previously and someone said they record the deaths as pneumonia or lung failure not as Covid 19.

Are there other labs currently testing for the HSE?
    Yes

Other labs in UCD and other universities around the country are being called upon to help with the effort in the labs, soo the pressure on NVRL will soon be shared more equally, which will facilitate ramping up.
    What universities?

Testing is being carried out in hospital laboratories.

That's strange. How is there any cases of death recorded for the virus if that's the case?

In terms of prisoners being released. Am i mad for thinking that they could be planning on using a couple of minimum security prisons as treatment centres? Beds and rooms available with very little modifications.

I wouldn't say mad but they are saying the early release is because of overcrowding not because they want to use them as wards.

Has the number of test centres and test kits increased yet?

Big lol at the slowdown in posts because the daily projected percentage increase reduced. and we didn't hit "the ton" in new cases today.

Scaremongers are sooooo disappointed. You know who you are.

The CDC can guarantee free testing for coronavirus under the Public Health Service Act. The Director of the CDC committed to this a few days ago but now seems to be backtracking. If this doesn't happen, there's an emergency bill in the works that would make free testing law.

    how about treatment?

Or maybe they're a bit more relaxed now and have taken their minds off all this, hopefully anyway

Trying to get my head around this emergency payment of 203 through payroll. Looking up welfare I would be entitled to 203 + 72 (2x qualifying children) + 134.70 qualifying adult, spouse Total 409.70 per week. So should I just go straight to welfare and bypass the employer payment. I guess I could be waiting for a few weeks if I go through welfare.

Could that possibly be because they were also suffering from pneumonia at the time or that their lungs were already failing?
I did read something about the deaths being recorded in some places and how they were marking them as coronavirus deaths, but the cause of death may not have been covid-19, but instead they died having covid-19.

If you're reacting like that, then you need to remove yourself from Boards. The sky is not falling. It is if you panic and fail to do your bit. So just do your bit, advise others in your circle of same and for the love of God stop panicking. Be alert, be very alert, keep doing all the right things, which includes mental rest. But stop feeding your anxiety.

that nice relaxed professor who is often on the telly says that stress /anxiety suppresses your immune system leaving you more susceptible to the virus.

mortality rate is not a true picture when people can't get tested and others with it are not even looking to get tested

You need to await the outcome of the disease to know the result. So 366 confirmed, I know of no confirmed recovered from that 366, but 2 with a known outcome. You can do a back of envelope calculation, based on first 366, the longer this goes on the larger the data set gets, but you need to wait on the outcome.

I agree that it is pedantic to worry when we will hit 15k cases as we will in early April at best but at 25% increase every day until 31st march, we would be at 6658 cases.

A Pyrrhic victory because by 4th April we would still be at 16,254.
Haven't done any crunching lately but 6,286 @1.275, to 12,646 @ 1.30 by 31st March, based on run late last week.

I didn't say otherwise. Not sure what that point has to do with the progression assertion I replied to.

Just wondering if anyone knows if the early case of a cluster of 4 people connected to schools in Co. Clare were Co. Galway based? (thus feeding into Galway's numbers rather than Clare's). Just trying to get a feel for geographical spread.

Around town was surreal today, people wearing face masks, queues outside the chemist, all standing spread out, shops low on food and having people keep distance from each other at tills, it's a strange time we are living in

Sorry was possibly unclear, moreso with helping in the provision of kits that will help with Covid19 testing, specifically Altona extraction kits.

There has also been calls to research scientists to help providee technical support to aid clinical personnel with diagnostic testing, mainly those with routine molecular biology experience. Likes of UCD.
