The journos are just as bad as Trump. Some of the questions about China are just off the wall.

One thing that I picked up on is that the Americans have now copped that their stockpiled 10,000 ventilators in storage are not enough and they will be "getting" more. The US journos are all over this.

The question now for journos in Ireland to Tony Holohan is what they have done to secure the existing ventilator stock from Medtronic who are based at various locations in Ireland, but who are an American Company!!!!

Get them now!!!! It wont just be the Americans scrambling for them.

If you know an Irish journo attending the Health Briefing tonight pass this on to them.

In Trump defence, China was trying to control the coronavirus narrative by suggestion the virus was spread by US army to China. Before that Trump was never used the term "Chinese Virus". I think he is trying to remind people the virus is originated from China, rather then being a racist. To be honest I don't find the term offensive, maybe a bit insensitive, or not too diplomatic. I am writing this as an ethic Chinese btw.

Oh god, now is not the time for the usual Trump culture war rubbish that excites so many.

In solidarity with everyone who is losing their jobs, the teachers should go on the dole too. We cant afford to pay them. Makes sense, right? We are heading into the greatest economic depression.

First off, I'm a teacher so obviously I'm biased. However, I fail to see the benefit of your suggestion? Ok the government won't haveto pay our wages, but they also won't receiveback the taxes/usc/prd etc. that are deducted from our salaries.

Secondly teachers also won't be able to pay bills/mortgages/spend money which will further depress the economy. I assume also that when I go on the dole in 'solidarity' that I can also cease teaching my students? Because currently I'm still working.

All I can see this doing is appeasing the ill-informed and begrudging teacher bashers. But please enlighten me if I missed something?

I think you may be confusing me, and indeed my contributions to these threads with someone else.

Like I said, present one example from any of the Covid threads other than haunty bread of my "catholic-bashing"?

You do know the rule here is attack the post?
    Not the poster?

    prove your claim?

You will have thousands of elderly stuck in their homes, if this gives them comfort so be it. "No atheists in a foxhole".

My father was VERY far from a holy Joe but in his last year of sickness mass broadcast via a speaker relay system, like some sort of CB radio thingy, into his room at home, brought him great comfort. Just to feel connected and contemplative and quiet.

This constant anti-religion band wagon that people love to jump on is bloody boring and annoying. The same people would be marveling at Buddhist shrines on their holidays and being respectful at Muslim sacred places, but for some reason they have a visceral hatred of what is on their door step. It is not just old people who get a bit of relief from religion, a fair few of my friends are religious in their own quiet ways. I do not attend their masses but it would never cross my mind to feel anything other than endearment for their spiritual convictions. This modern liberalism that is so tolerant of every goddamn kink, fetish and neurotic oddity in human nature is so bizarrely authoritarian when it comes to ordinary people's quiet faith and matters of conscience. Rack off.

Did you hear the whole comment? The context? It was in the context of bringing Pharmaceutical jobs home.

It was in the context of not totally depending on only China for imports of these products!!

He said Ireland is doing tremendous work so can be a source of these products! At the end he said he wanted to bring manufacturing home in the context of the original point of not depending on China for Pharma products.

You are hearing what you want to hear.

I hate the prick but he did not say what you are saying.

(I listened to the whole thing live yesterday so do get the context)

Trump back to his petulant nasty self again singling out the pharmaceutical companies based in Ireland saying we need to make our drugs here in the USA.
What a nasty piece of work.

    Fake News!
Not hugely important in the current situation, but he didn't say that.
He actually complimented Ireland in the context of being an alternative to China, for the supply of pharmaceutical and medical devices.
"Ireland.... a tremendous producer of pharmaceuticals..."

I am not going to start something up just to express my opposition to Catholicism, but your sentence above is wide of the mark i would say.

Most people who are not religious are just as abhorred by other religions as our indigenous one.

Yeah I don't care who worships who, I just think it shouldn't be on the national broadcaster. I think that's fair enough, I personally don't know any practicing Catholics.

Would be kinda greedy of them to be getting the dole on top of their wages but I'm sure they'll be glad to hear you think so highly of them.

Here's the youtube link to yesterday's press conference, the question is asked at 1:17:30,

see the Joe Rogan interview with Michael Osterholm.
The problem is with China producing so many drugs for Americans.

Osterholm literally said - "what if the U.S. military were having their munitions produced by the Chinese. Folks would think that's crazy. It's the same with essential drugs"
