All eyes on Italy's numbers today.

The number who have died there has stabilized in the last three days

    15/3 368
    16/3 349
    17/3 345

Let's hope there has been another decrease, even to show a trend that we can pin our hopes on.

That said we are only 9 or 10 days on from the lockdown there so it might be another few days before the numbers start reflecting that.

Where can we see how many Italy have tested over the past week?

When Vallance came out with the herd mentality idea, he was almost universally lauded by the UK media as a genius. Turns out he was nothing of the sort.

According to some here, they only stopped the Herd Immunity approach because of interference from Big Pharma....

The only thing I would worry about Italy is that I would not be surprised if there is another increase in cases, and then deaths after, in the coming week to 10 days, after the mass exodus from Lombardy when they shut that region down.
The movements from the North to the South of Italy ended on Sunday 9 March when the nationwide lockdown kicked in.
That was 9 days ago, I believe the average incubation period is less than that.
So most of those who were infected by the 9 March and moved to the South, should have already developed symptoms by now.
Therefore I hope that the peak will be reached soon and the curve will start flattening then.

Details have yet to be released but I would say people will have to contact their banks.

TBH - personally I think a blanket deferral would be simpler - just hit pause on all mortgage repayments for 3 months - but I doubt that is what will happen.
And yes, I know some people will be able to continue to pay but surely from an admin point of view it would be easier if those people got in touch with the bank to say so.

One concern is that according to the Indo interest could keep accruing. So perhaps it's really interest only on offer...

I'm sure we'll find out the details later.

Why would someone who can pay want to defer their payment? feck that I want to pay the damn thing off as soon as I can.

One thing I don’t understand is contact tracing . I get the immediate circle of family and friends etc but if some is on a train or bus then surely that chain breaks as no one knows who was on the bus ?

A 37 year old in Madrid and a 17 year old in Korea both without any underlying conditions have died, the Korean boy is suspected /undetermined but he has tested positive in some tests, negative in others. While these instances are still very rare we will see them from time to time as there are such a large number of cases now but perhaps it might make young people take this more seriously and realise they arent invincible

The teenager in Korea tested negative for COVID 19 eight times but also tested positive in some tests, so currently it is still undetermined .

As an Irish man living over in London I'm getting pretty f**ckin anxious now - and I'm a calm person. Pubs, Tube, Schools still open as usual. Walked past a couple of pubs last night on my way home and they were rammed with people.

I'm still being told to work in our office here in Canary Wharf even though I can easily WFH
That's the English way innit. Sing songs while the air-raid sirens are sounding.
Bugger the virus I'm still having my 1/2 a lager

I guess that tracing back close contacts for a few days, and missing out on some such as public transport is better than tracing none.

Does anyone know what the wait time for a test is? My GP ordered one this morning on my behalf but they were not sure how long it would take or how it all works. Do I wait on a text or letter in the post or what?

Distribution of laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the EU/EEA and the UK, as of 18 March 2020

The daily reported case numbers from Europe at 08:00 am today.

The trend in the barchart seems more linear than exponential, but that may be wishful thinking.

Perhaps the mitigation efforts are showing... time will tell.

Our government tell us all to isolate but refuse to ban flights from London where CV will soon be rampant.

Makes you wonder why we bother isolating and practicing social isolation if our government couldn't be bothered to do their bit.

Daily HSE briefing will be at 5.30 - in terms of whether we'll be under the 30% mark, the overall figure would be 380, and the daily total would be 88.

That's a big jump, I notice that their infection is lower than ours (it maybe that we've been testing more in the last few days) but their death rate is much higher.

Not sure where you can find the number of people being tested. It would be a useful stat.

The number being confirmed infected has flattened out around 3,500 per day for the last 4 days, so that may be down to limits on numbers being tested or the rate of infections may be slowing down a bit. I suppose we need the actual number of new infections to decrease numerically rather than just as a proportion of overall cases to be sure.

Yes, we are getting reports of a whole retirement home getting wiped out in Spain with 15 deaths.

The UK are only testing people with severe symptoms.

The death rate is unfortunately following Italy now in terms of daily increases.
