All flights in and out of UK need to be stopped at this stage.

There is no rhyme nor reason for importing the results of their madness.

Hell will freeze over before our government makes a big but necessary decision like that. They are unable to make the link between free movement and the spread of this virus it seems when the link has been shown from day 1.

    Thanks !

Wonder what happened to the Cork - Wuhan sequence !

So the three Irish cases are as follows (please correct me if I am wrong):
-the Dublin one was originated via contact with the Netherlands and/or Bavaria (via Italy)

-one from Limerick was originated via England and/or the Netherlands

-second one from Limerick is 100% from the Netherlands

    https://nextstrain.org/ncov?f_country=Ireland&f_division=Dublin,Limerick

There's a Northern ireland one from Feb 26 as well, which also groups in with the big European set of sequences.

So we've five virus genomes from Ireland in total, all imported from Europe, and two or three might be linked - would need patient history to know this.
All 5 are highlighted here: https://nextstrain.org/ncov?f_division=Limerick,Northern%20Ireland,Dublin&l=radial&m=div

I don't know if they're planning to do more of this work here, as I'm not sure how valuable it is to sequence viral genomes from occasional patients when you reckon there are thousands of people out there with it.
We really need to be doing more of the PCR tests for presence / absence, and also antibody tests when rapid tests are approved.

I had no idea it was taxpayer funded.

They should have all funding withdrawn given the country is now circling the drain

    Some figures so far today

Spain 2086 new cases, 90 deaths
    Germany 1980 new cases
    South Korea 93 new cases
USA 1,100 new cases, 8 new deaths
Netherland 346 new cases, 15 new deaths

Spanish figures seem to get updated during the day...I'm not sure if they report them by province?

I don't know what's going on with Germany, but they must have a different definition of Covid 19 related deaths.

South Korea's numbers are disappointing, they seem to be rising a bit again. Hopefully it's just a one day variance.

As an Irish man living over in London I'm getting pretty f**ckin anxious now - and I'm a calm person. Pubs, Tube, Schools still open as usual. Walked past a couple of pubs last night on my way home and they were rammed with people.

I'm still being told to work in our office here in Canary Wharf even though I can easily WFH

    I don't envy you.

The CMO & Health Minister over there both need to be fired. Unbelievable incompetence. Following economic advise rather than medical. I read his statement, its insulting to anyones intelligence.

If I lived over there I would have to take the matter into my own hands and disappear with whatever reasons I had to employ.

I’m not understanding why Trump stands aside for Pence to give more of the detail....
Is it just damage limitation I.e,the less he talks, the more rubbish he comes out with??
Like saying (initially) this self-swab was going to be done by a health professional (corrected it afterwards to be fair....)

Yeah, wasn't there a 48 hour lag between Lombardy being shut down and the rest of the country?

It will be something to consider if there is another rise.

My sister lives in the East Midlands, England and works at what is essentially BER rating buildings. Her brief for the last few months has been old folks homes. Even up until yesterday she has not been asked once to wear gloves or face mask on entering the buildings. She is entering resident's rooms and mingling in communal areas. She sent me a photo of the visitor's toilet where there was no loo roll.
The next picture she sent me was of her having a Paddy's day pint with her fella in a fairly full pub.

    Grim.

    Was that ****ing religious cult.

They should all just be quarantined with no medical support.

Same in Madrid a big cluster started by evangelist morons that believe it;s all in Gods plan anyway.

Should be shot with balls of their own shyte...

All eyes on Italy's numbers today.

The number who have died there has stabilized in the last three days

    15/3 368
    16/3 349
    17/3 345

Let's hope there has been another decrease, even to show a trend that we can pin our hopes on.

That said we are only 9 or 10 days on from the lockdown there so it might be another few days before the numbers start reflecting that.

Where can we see how many Italy have tested over the past week?

When Vallance came out with the herd mentality idea, he was almost universally lauded by the UK media as a genius. Turns out he was nothing of the sort.

According to some here, they only stopped the Herd Immunity approach because of interference from Big Pharma....

The movements from the North to the South of Italy ended on Sunday 9 March when the nationwide lockdown kicked in.
That was 9 days ago, I believe the average incubation period is less than that.
So most of those who were infected by the 9 March and moved to the South, should have already developed symptoms by now.
Therefore I hope that the peak will be reached soon and the curve will start flattening then.

Details have yet to be released but I would say people will have to contact their banks.

TBH - personally I think a blanket deferral would be simpler - just hit pause on all mortgage repayments for 3 months - but I doubt that is what will happen.
And yes, I know some people will be able to continue to pay but surely from an admin point of view it would be easier if those people got in touch with the bank to say so.

One concern is that according to the Indo interest could keep accruing. So perhaps it's really interest only on offer...

I'm sure we'll find out the details later.

Why would someone who can pay want to defer their payment? feck that I want to pay the damn thing off as soon as I can.

One thing I don’t understand is contact tracing . I get the immediate circle of family and friends etc but if some is on a train or bus then surely that chain breaks as no one knows who was on the bus ?

A 37 year old in Madrid and a 17 year old in Korea both without any underlying conditions have died, the Korean boy is suspected /undetermined but he has tested positive in some tests, negative in others. While these instances are still very rare we will see them from time to time as there are such a large number of cases now but perhaps it might make young people take this more seriously and realise they arent invincible

The teenager in Korea tested negative for COVID 19 eight times but also tested positive in some tests, so currently it is still undetermined .

I guess that tracing back close contacts for a few days, and missing out on some such as public transport is better than tracing none.

Does anyone know what the wait time for a test is? My GP ordered one this morning on my behalf but they were not sure how long it would take or how it all works. Do I wait on a text or letter in the post or what?
