We won't know until the weekend if the measures taken last Thursday have slowed the pace.

Due to how long symptoms may not appear it be longer then the weekend

all I want from Leo is honest about how long this is going to go on for, best scientific estimate, so we can plan on that basis

With all due respect, that’s a total bollix question to ask- no one knows, least of all, Leo.

Doubt itll be 29th of March, doing my LC this year. Hopefully its after the easter holidays were back to normal.

Not a hope. What I could see happening is LC and JC classes brought back maybe 2 or 3 days a week to prepare for the exams but all other classes will be suspended till September at the earliest or possibly August if the spread was well Under control by then.

Not sure if I've seen Contagion.

Did any of these dystopian pandemic movies ever feature scenes of loockdowns like what's happening now in some countries?

    Contagion is that movie tbh.
It's a fairly realistic view of a virus with a lower R/0 than Corona but a far higher fatality rate.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your point, that is NOT a 10% mortality rate.

    Correct.

Mortality is a % of total diagnosed cases, not a % of new daily cases.

If the Broadcast starts with Leo in a wooden shed with one lamp we know where it is going.

Perhaps it's fate that today is the 17th of March, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the 17th of March will no longer be known as an Paddy’s Day, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

It's only been about 9 days since the first case was detected !
I know it seems like ages. Give it some time. Unfortunately it takes time for people to die also so expect that too.

At the same time The number of serious cases has been at 6 since 13th March and I find that suspicious as 2 died since then but the number stayed at 6.

I understand that the first death in Ireland was tested after he died so number of deaths rose by 1 while the number of active cases stayed the same. The total number of cases quietly rose by 1 that day.

I'm amazed at the amount of cases in iceland, up to 250 now and I would assume they are all in the only town on the island which only has a population of 130k

Not a fan of Leo or his party but I have been impressed with his and his governments actions even if they are only following advice. It is obvious they are listening to experts and the good of the people seems to be their collective priority, although all the other parties seem to giving their support aswell. Corny I know but we are all in this together, the virus does not discriminate.

    They’ve handled this quite well

And I think that speech(if it is a ‘come together’) isn’t even misplaced!

Show unity and just keep getting across that we all need to play a part

No more travel between European Countries for non nationals from each respective country until the end of next month.

Emergency powers to do whatever in the interests of public greater public health coming in by end of week.

The border is going to be an issue, because the Brits have been badly advising all of their citizens and those in Northern Ireland.

In fairness they have been great the last week Among other things at communication and transparency so I’d trust whatever is said tonight. So important that we can feel so confident in our government at this time.

I know it’s not very important but if there was another election Tomorrow I’d be voting FG all the way. Harris, Varadker and the way the government have been handling this has been so impressive. All authorities seem to be so quick to react as needed.

Fair City looks daft tonight. They filmed for their paddy’s day night a couple weeks ago I guess and they are all in the pub drinking. Scriptwriters should be sacked.

They film about 6 weeks in advance. You think the scriptwriters should be sacked for that? They've done worse ðŸ˜
