Belgium will go into lockdown for nearly three weeks, the state broadcaster RTBF reports.

From noon on Wednesday CET, all people living in Belgium will be expected to stay at home, unless it is an emergency, or they need to visit a supermarket or medical professional.

Some of the lads here need to get onto them quick to save the Belgian economy.

Fair City looks daft tonight. They filmed for their paddy’s day night a couple weeks ago I guess and they are all in the pub drinking. Scriptwriters should be sacked.

Dail meeting on Thursday to sign off on a bill giving the government power to stop mass gatherings, close premises and pay special social welfare payments.

It seems like 6 years ago yet only 6 weeks ago we had a general election. Weeks of slagging, criticising and scoring points against politicians. We have a caretaker Government who in my opinion are playing a blinder in this horrendous situation. Look across the water either side of this island and see who is holding their reins. No-one that entered politics could have ever envisioned having to deal with this. You may not like our politicians but they are humans with families and worries the same as the rest of us.

So, that was only one trial.

Perhaps Italy's hospitals would be better equipped if persistent large scale tax fraud wasn't a thing.

    Not only tax fraud.

The Neoliberals have been running down all public services in western countries for ages. Thatcher and Regan internationally and Mary Harney here have a lot to answer for.

You can't have "low tax" "privatization" and not forcing the large companies and the billionaires to pay their fair share of tax, and also have good public health services.

And if it's not paid for... it will not be there... when you need it most.

    Like now.

    Patricks Day message?

And a bit of spirit raising. Might be a bit too early to up the intervention measures? They know that compliance is a huge issue.

I was about to post that last positive post .Perspective is needed!!This is not in fact the end of the world. Not even close.

If you are starting to feel that way you need to step away from social media and go for a walk or find something else to do.

Some of it is probably true but I'd say a lot of it is internet BS. I'd rather know the facts than some fake positive BS with no backup from reputable sources.

The internet has turned us stupid, gullible and unwilling to see truth unless it's the truth we want to believe.

In fairness Italy health care system is rated as one of the best in the world. Which is why this is so scary.

I'd be surprised if Leo ordered a full shutdown tonight.

Given they signed off on emergency powers this morning to go through the Dail in the coming days I'd suspect he might update people on that. Such as the power to detain people who refuse to isolate and the gardai getting powers to shutdown mass gatherings

That's horse****. How can we lock everything down for 5 and a half months. 2 to 3 weeks and society will start to get very edgy indeed. People need to live and work and provide for their families.

It will last as long as it has to. Unless s$%t hits the fans people will still be able to get groceries and work. I say you be able to go outside and walk around.

Why would the post be a joke?

Unless you can care to point out, maybe!

They allowed 5000 people from one of the most infected parts of the planet in for a piss up. They didn’t stop flights from infected regions. They lied in many interviews saying the prospects of the virus spreading in Ireland was low.

There are endless examples of how they messed this up from the start. Don’t give them credit for doing small parts of their jobs right.

They're just doing their job really, they have had a easy run all along, ironic that they are a caretaker government.

Can you give me a side by side example of EU's fascism and Nazi Germany's?
