We were in a Spar yesterday when the Gardaí came in and told the staff no sales of alcohol until 4pm today.

A friend of ours plastered the photos of their house parties all over Facebook, both Friday and Saturday nights. They’re in their late thirties, married with four kids, ones a nurse, the other works for the council. You’d hope they’d have the cop on, but since some people cant be hit with the common sense stick, the government is going to have move past ‘urging people’ and ‘advising people’, and start increasing restrictions.

You can’t fix stupid. Some people are just ret@rds I cant get over how thick people are. True and utter gob****es.

The travel advise from the HSE since last night is that anyone arriving into Ireland from another country should self isolate. I cut our holiday short to get home from kenya and got in yesterday morning and the advise from the HSE at the time in the airport was to only self isolate if we had symptoms.

I think we should self isolate, partner thinks we're ok as there's no detected corona in Kenya, we were hardly in contact with anyone while over there and the planes home were empty. Her work are saying as we got in before the updated travel advisory she should report to work as normal if there's no symptoms. Is this madness or am I being over the top?

Self isolate. None detected in Kenya as they are not testing. Can’t find what you are not looking for

Where are you getting this stuff??

I was listening to Paschal O Donoghue on Sunday afternoon radio news saying that the antics in temple bar was disappointng and gov was looking at ways to ensure compliance ie to make the guidelines work.

The next call on the line was from the Vintners association saying they were calling time themselves because the guidelines that Paschal was still trying to make work, weren't going to.

Certainly people couldn't be trusted on Patrick's Day/night.

They've been buying slabs of cans now for parties....

That’s an issue, timing couldn’t be worse, will be see some fûckwits out to misbehave in a serious way tonight under the influence of drink coupled with covid brain, the last party hurrah ? Could provide the Gardai and health services with problems they seriously don’t need.

Hopefully bigger brothers, sisters, parents and responsible friends can be positive influences. I’d have my doubts, it’s Ireland, 2020, you can hear the rattling when people walk such are the levels of brain shrinkage.

What's up with Iran reporting the exact same daily total for almost a fortnight now. 1100-1200 every single day, is that the limit of the amount of tests they can perform ?

If only there were purpose-built isolation facilities with multiple small lockable rooms in which isolation could be forced upon such people. :)

    Here's a mad one.
The ultimate isolation. Contestants on Germany's Big Brother tv show haven't a clue about the virus yet. They are to be told live on air tonight!

It's scary, but what type of help was he actually given G? From my reading of the Wuhan serious cases(and maybe a medical person could confirm?) around 60% were on O2, nasal canula/mask type thing, of the rest most were on non invasive high O2 flow and "only" 10% were on the full mechanical intubation or ECMO. I only mention it because a few years ago I had a relative on O2 for pneumonia(bacterial) and I mentioned ventilation to one of the docs and she explained to me in you look like a dribbling moron terms :D the differences and that my relative wasn't being "ventilated" in the way I might have thought. Before her explanation if anyone had asked me I would have likely said they were.

I was only told ventilation but that's a good point, he could well only be oxygen.

We've all been left in the dark more or less with bits and pieces getting out.

I've been to Venice several times, amazing to see the clarity of the water now.

That is crazy. Just shows how much we are f**king our planet.

Regarding not shutting everything down. I couldn't understand how e were going to survive if we did.

A two week shut down wasn't going to solve it. A 2-3 month shut down would result in 50-60% of our work force unemployed. No one paying taxes, no one to bail us out. Who pays the public sector employees? Not to mention that after the 2-3 months we still can't interact with the world becuase places like Africa and India won't have eradicated the virus.

We need to realise this is the only way. We need to practice social distancing and good hygiene everywhere possible to keep the numbers of people needing ICU down until we find an anti viral or vaccine that works.

Yeah they did. Think the Spanish one is only about 5 days old.

My parents are out there :( They have made the decision to stay put rather than risk a mass exodus in the airport. Am worried sick about them but from what they have told me, there have been real efforts to implement and enforce the lockdown controls there. Dad went to the supermarket to stock up for a couple of weeks and staff in masks were patrolling the shop aisles reminding people to keep distances. Police out patrolling the streets etc.

I don't see the Ibuprofen question as ****housery. From what I read the French report was based on a genuine study & it made sense to me. If you are fine with Paracetamol then why use Ibuprofen ?

The criticism of the posts seems to forget that they weren't internet rumours or gossip. There is genuine research behind them.

“I would advise against that,” said Prof Ian Jones, a virologist at the University of Reading. “There’s good scientific evidence for ibuprofen aggravating the condition or prolonging it. That recommendation needs to be updated.”

Paul Little, a professor of primary care research at the University of Southampton, said: “The general feeling is that the French advice is fairly sensible. There is now a sizeable literature from case control studies in several countries that prolonged illness or the complications of respiratory infections may be more common when non-steroidal anti-inflammatories [NSAIDs] are used.”

Why? that’s not normally how a virus works

I added this to the post:

Edit: Above is not fact. It wss a theory being put out there by researchers, but unproven. Iy is held thst suspected reinfections may have been due to an error in the initial diagnosis and recovery. There is a lot unknown.

I just arrived today and they were telling absolutely everyone arriving to self-isolate, regardless of where you came from.

    I think you should.

It's frustrating. I work in an essential service and I really want to get stuck in and help out right now

Sounds sensible alright D, especially if paracetamol is right there as an alternative.

Though a question I'd have - and it may be a daft one - if you're feverish that's your body's built in response evolved over millions of years to kill pathogens, so why seek to reduce that? Obviously if it gets to dangerous temps yeah, but otherwise is it not better to let the fever do the job it evolved to do?

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

From what I knew at the time I believed it to be correct, the pubs, shops, hotels all voluntarily closing changed things, anything is a guess from here on regarding timelines.

I'm very concerned for our front line staff after seeing something last night with my own two eyes. I may be able to confirm in the next few days. The HSE need to release local data as a matter of priority and if someone has it from a shop, bar, restaurant etc they need to tell people where it is, it would be impossible to contact everyone. These people need to isolate before they show symptoms.
Well I was privy to information that wasn't in the public sphere, it did not have a date but it was expected to be announced sunday after a meeting with government but the actions Saturday night seemed to have cooled the Jets. Lesson learned there on calling a time as it wasn't stated for definite when the plan kicks in. I do still believe we will see it shortly, tbh were half way there already.
    And there are more

Helping out must surely begin with taking steps to prevent yourself from making things worse.

So can you see this through at home , or is it imperative to call the hospital?

Don't worry about them, I am in Spain myself and things are grand, people quite responsible keeping distance etc in shops.

Shops aren't packed either and panic buying seems to have died down.

They are better off here than in Ireland...

Be more frustrating to everyone if you have the virus and you passed it on, and how would you feel if you passed in on to a colleague and someone got really sick.

You can help out just as much in 2 weeks time - it won't have disappeared by then, **** knows it will still be around in 2 months time
