no, according to rob316 a lockdown is an overreaction. we should just accept Elderly people will die from this and just get on with life.

They will die and people should stop been in denial, I'm scared as anyone but I'm a realist.

Its absolutely awful what's happening and I'm not trying to troll or downplay. It will come to each and everyone of our doors or someone close, family or friend. There is no vaccine, their is no cure, backs are against the wall here big time.

I am hugely confident things will look alot brighter in a few weeks from now.

    What is your problem?

    Essential economic stuff must carryon.

Fooking idiots on top of each other getting pissed is not needed.

What part of this do you not understand?

So the hospitality trade isnt essential to the economy.

They’d be 33% of the population. If anything that’s better than a high % of +65 cases
Yes of course you're right, it just took me by surprise.

I think I have Corona Virus. I've been sick the past few days. But thinking about it further I probably have a normal flu.

Unreal if that is still the case... did HSE put in orders? Or are we waiting 7 weeks lead-time (due in May) for imported units?

New ventilators should be "smart" enabled (ie like a Defib) which would / should be easy to monitor and operate. They will be needed at every clinic and probably on the black market too

Hse have ordered 70. 60 ICU grade and 10 mobile ones.

Infections will continue to increase then. That's the trade off. To stop infections spreading everywhere must close. Closing pubs but leaving offices open will make zero difference to stoping soread

Have you been living under a rock? Use the SD and hand-washing guidelines that's rammed down your neck every day and you'll be fine. Drunks in pubs are incapable of this hence why they're closed.

And despite the huge amount of drunks in the country Holohan somehow thinks social distancing will work?

Women have a more enhanced immune system than men (man flu is a real thing lol).

Thanks mainly to genes X chromosome and hormones, it doesn't really benefit when it comes to auto immune diseases but it's well known that women live longer too in general.

41 out of 1m people is not riddled. It is a cluster. But it will rise hugely, I grant you.

    Have 1million been tested?

There are 7.5 billion people on this earth, and besides the people that have already had covid - ZERO people have immunity.

Well in the case of Italy there are still more new cases everyday than the day before so that means they haven't reached a ceiling in the number of tests, but yes eventually it could become a factor.

China and South Korea have undoubtedly got things under control for now. Iran is anyone's guess.

Why aren't China trying to get 'herd immunity' across their one billion whatever population I wonder?!

Maybe they already have it. Be interesting see what happens in Wuhan.

Apologies I'm sure this has been asked already but is everyone who gets this being admitted to hospital? We have 3 small kids, what if my husband and I both get it? Grandparents obviously wouldn't be able to come and mind them.

Absolute knack bags. It's going to be people with IQ's that reflect your average Dublin / Kerry football score game that will help in spreading this.

China seems to be lifting some restrictions and getting back to a degree of normality, it will be a few weeks before we know whether it has worked though. The virus could come back.with restrictions lifted depending on how many are now immune.

Poor deflection. Irresponsible drunkards negating any notion of personal space dramatically increases risk of infection. Can you not fathom one iota why the pubs had to shut?

You're not an idiot that gets me banned, but this is certainly the kind of thing an idiot would post.

    Agreed

So many mathematicians on here and statistical experts. A virus is unpredictable it could just slow to a crawl too. Your model fails to take into account our early lockdown measures and the results they yield.

Legally a lockdown should be declared and enforced.

Could you explain why only 20% of people on the princess cruise ship got it and only 3% of wuhan got it even though it was left completely untreated for a few months in the wuhan situation.

It might be but they are farther down the track in terms of COVID-19 than anyone else so you'd reasonably expect to see some effect of whatever measures they've applied.

I agree they should be shut. So should non essential work places.

No. 80% do not require medical. For most, it's no worse than a cold.

You might as well talk to the wall. For some posters this is no more then a competition between UK and Ireland which Ireland must win, even if we’re actually losing.
Some posters think that the Taoiseach and the tanaiste are making these decisions after considering the situation with their huge big heavy clever brains crammed full of wisdom.
    They haven’t got a clue.

His point is why close pubs but leave offices open. The reason pubs were asked to close is to try and stop infection. People working together can and will spread infection. Just closing pubs makes zero difference.

    Close everywhere except essential services

Somebody has to handle payments to Medtronic. I'd guess their payroll might be outsourced. They'll have land and sea shipping companies to work through. Their IT must be furnished somehow. Etc etc etc

Every office I know that's still open has sanitiser stations and some attempt at social distancing underway. None of that is happening in a pub.
