Hope it’s not too late for Harry and Meghan to change their minds about leaving the cocoon they were complaining about.

Question: if a proper 'lockdown' is announced, do people who can't work from home still go in? This semi lockdown (closed schools, anyone who can work from home is recommended to do so, social distancing) is becoming less semi all the time (with recommendations against travelling and closing of pubs for example). What's the next step? Will all workplaces close?

A lot of "non-essential" businesses will close during the week.

Its all about this Al-C0h-01 thing. Peope need it in their lives but deny its a problem for them. Maybe we need new thread?

If it was about the alcohol people would sit at home and drink it. There is nothing stopping them to do that. It’s about socialising and having the craic. Some people are a bit slower to realise the implications of this pandemic. Soon enough everyone will get the idea that craic and socialising is not going to be around much for a while.

Certain important jobs who cannot work from home will still go in, the most obvious being health services but also supermarkets, farmers, Gardaí, certain parts of the civil service and councils, CIE, food packers, etc.

Social welfare too :( and revenue commissioners to pay for it.

Well thats horsesh1t anyway. Army at supermarkets, never heard anything so daft. Any idea how many supermarkets in this country? Why would we need army at the supermarkets, they've cleaned the places out already only for it to be replaced the following day.

You may be surprised as that is exactly what is going to happen in the USA quite soon. They say it is just one region now but as it start in one place it will be expanded rapidly.
Slovak government is planning simmilar thing. In situation like this it is unavoidable.

100s of specialists sending open letters to the British Government.

Basically telling them hiding old people and carrying on is monumentally stupid.

Because Britain is outside the EU are they no longer privy to shared information inside it?
I would be no fan of britain or brexiteers, but it would be wrong not to share info about this with them

I heard from a very reliable source the same. Tuesday is lockdown day

To be honest, with the way things are going, source or no source, I'd be shocked if we didn't go into full lock-down.

I guess they'll clarify that when (not IF) they make the announcement.

These people live from paycheck to paycheck and are in serious trouble.
It looks like not all banks are offering deferred payments

Ireland will recover fast and the uk will be burdened with cases they will rush the boarders trying to get access to the superior health care that the hse provides. We must stop these people! Uk has long since been a drain on our economy and resources. Totally agree.

We realistically don’t know show fast recovery will be I’m afraid

My cousin and her husband closed their small village pub two days ago. It must have been a very tough decision as this would be the second biggest week of revenue after Christmas. There was no waiting for a direction or enforced closure. A lot of other pubs followed suit. In my hometown of clonmel vast majority of pubs and the only nightclub was closed from early Friday.

Diceys garden has posted that they are open tonight with restricted numbers. This is after they have been publicly notified that a customer who had been in a number of times during the week had tested positive for coronavirus. As the maximum number of people at an indoor gathering is 100 and the fact that 15-20 would be staff (bouncers, cleaners, bar staff, lounge staff,) the fact that they are opening is shocking. Also as most other places are shut, chances that a huge crowd will congregate outside, hopping to get in.meaning they will be in close proximity which increases infection risk. The worst thing is they signed off the post publicist the fact that they are open with ‘Stay Safe’.

Illinois closing all bars and restaurants from monday..... yet some of the locals are saying it ridiculous.... these people will be the ones crying foul if anything happens to them or their loved ones.

Amazing the lack of knowledge about Covid-19 in the states

I'm working from home pretty much indefinitely now our office is open but we cannot go in if we have any symptoms of cold/flu and are otherwise encouraged to wfh

I suspect later this week the office will close

Almost two weeks so far, and while in the past the thoughts of wfh gave me the screaming heebie newbies, in the current environment its structure for a big part of the day

The video of the British cyclist in Spain might be an overreaction to the likes of this:

    https://twitter.com/VivaElReyDeEsp/status/1239211245070422016

"We shall infect them on the beaches, we shall infect them on the landing grounds..."

The Brits shall never give up on their war against the EU

Social welfare is only it at the moment.

As for mortgage holidays, these are normal features for most banks, not just in times like this.

A truly remarkable reduction in self presenting for A/E at the moment.

Someone will figure it out in time, I am sure. And hopefully will present their results for the future trolley watch experts.

Surgeries and procedures been cancelled so beds are available!!!

Judging by what Italy, Spain and France are doing, I would expect it to be the next step.

Seems incredible that a few days ago Leo was delivering a Bowl of Shamrock across the Atlantic, and telling everyone St Patrick's Day is so on.

Only 57 of the deaths in Italy were under 60 years old. With no deaths under 30 years old

Also reports of triaging going on where only those under 60 and with no comorbidities getting ICU treatment. This will lead to better outcomes for younger patients. Correlation does not equal Causation.
