    Where?

    UK changed testing rationale.
Germany had over 1200 cases today
Spain had over 2000 cases and 100 deaths
France has not reported its figures for some reason
Italy had another record case increase and new high for deaths
USA is on it's way to its first 1000+ case count

Positive is South Korea where new cases have daily in the last week. Everywhere else in a deteriorating mess.

Virus has not peaked anywhere in Europe yet. It will be interesting to see when it happens and where it happens (might give us some clues in Ireland what the trajectory is).

Bullshít. We know the Brits have it wrong. And this isn't an Irish v Brit thing don't be so vacuous and childish.

The Chinese have shown the way, it's a costly approach in terms of the economy but it works and in Europe different countries end up adopting that approach but incredibly the Brits think they know better, they don't.

Hard on the heels of the stupidity of Brexit and then the enormous stupidity of following through and compounding the initial error re Brexit they then end up with a buffoon as their Prime Minister, and now this incredibly stupid motivated by ignorant greed herd immunity so called strategy.

We can safely say with their stupid approach to this crisis that per head of population the Brits have become the stupidest nation on the planet over recent years. Every country has it's fair share of morons but in the UK it appears the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

It's not about being anti Brit or pro Brit or any of that crap, it's about calling out the stupidity of their so called strategy which they think might save them some money but in the long run won't and will probably cost more lives than if they do what the rest of the world it appears are attempting to implement.

I wouldn't give a damn what they did however unfortunately for us they're next door to us and also they have influence over part of the North of this island. All we can do is try to talk some sense into them up in The North and hope they do the right thing.

My apologies if my post was vacuous and childish I did not mean for it to be interpreted that way and I’m sorry for any offence I caused you.
China may have shown the way you’re correct, my point is it’s early days as regards if China have beat this virus and we can reevaluate come Next year hopefully.
I didn’t mean to start a debate about which policy on Coronavirus is the right approach I just was trying to articulate that we don’t know which approach is best until some stage in the next few years and the Coronavirus is a thing of the past.

The we will look back and be able to evaluate which approach was best and how to best put policies in place for similar outbreaks in the future.

I may not have articulated this response very well and I hope I don’t offend anyone

Guards raided Brogans and shut it down.

Couldn't be true. Gardai do not currently have the power to shut down pubs.
They've been asked to close from midnight tonight

Could the dept of public health use their powers to shut non complaint pubs in the interest of public safety, im pretty sure they could find a number of breaches of hygiene rules anyway to serve a closure order the pubs would soon get the message

Or maybe they don’t care about being proven wrong.

This whole thing reminds me though why people are discouraged from saying “I told you so” or similar. It’s the most useless, impotent sentiment and does nothing but rile.

But very satisfying. Especially when week after week of trying to warn people on here what was coming they were scoffed at, ridiculed, accused of scare mongering and shut down in every way possible.
Tiny chancer has never stopped trying to warn us.

The ridiculers should be very ashamed of themselves right now.
But you are right, the idiots have moved on to new people to ridicule.
Or maybe they're currently in the pub...

Government has requested pubs, bars and restaurants to close but there is no legislation to compel them to do same. If a pub decides to remain open that’s their choice I think. Most will close but a few will remain business as usual and maybe be packed to the rafter in a corona virus Petri dish.

Not good PR going forward after hundreds have been buried due to virus spread.

across the road from me on talbot street the pub has closed its shutters but its cleary packed and a right aul sesh going on in there. clearly this order to close isnt being heard very well in the city, can only imagine how its being dealt with rurally.

They are doing nothing illegal so they are going to milk it until they are forced by legislation to close. But there should be a public list made available of all these pubs. And when it comes to renewal of their licence thousands of objections should be lodged.

Revenge is a pint best served cold.

I know it was mentioned before but Facebook and the likes needs to be curtailed in someways for the next couple of weeks. The amount of utter rubbish and sensational posts is mad , and the amount of people believing them is even worse. The latest one claims each shop will have army personnel posted outside to stop panic buying and to in force crowd control....happening Tuesday apparently

No pub in Ireland would even dare defy this instruction tomorrow. It won't be an issue.

Ok, see this is where we go too far, firstly describing people as 'sheep shaggers' for being from outside dublin and wishing the pub trade run out of booze is just bad form, understandibly they have to close for public safety reasons, and understandibly you don't drink , both of those things are fine but you need to tone down the anti drink rhetoric in my opinion, I like many others have a load of cans at home for just this eventuality , nothing wrong with a drink, closing the pubs is a crowding issue only.

The Sheep Shaggers thing is clearly a joke and you know it would not think a sheep would let anybody do that anyway.:D

I am not anti drink either I just gave it up like I quit the smokes.

Have drinks at home fine it is the idea of loads of people mixing together and spreading this thing that annoys me.

And pubs will run out of drink those barrels don't go very far you know.

Can people not get their head around keeping within the capacity of the health service. Does Italy look like its just a seasonal flu?

No and neither was the Spanish flu at the time, it's a new unknown strain like those previous and like the next ones will be

As for the reply on kicking the can down the road is the aim? where is the end game in that?? a year to 18 months for a vaccine to appear?

Do these lockdowns work or just kick the can down the road? is this not going away readily?..........like any other pandemic strains of flu (it's what it is) the only combat is vaccine and build up of immunity, the latter you only get by it's spread not hiding behind closed doors ................the reality we have to face is that some people are going to die from it, it's tragic and not avoidable .............the Spanish flu killed 60m people and is now what we call a seasonal flu

It is not the flu, its is not an influenza virus, there will be no vaccine nor immunity.

The Spanish flu is not the seasonal flu.

If anything this pandemic is showing the pure thick ignorance of some people.

I'd agree with you on that. Most cases in china came from family members.

Is there any history from today's new confirmed cases?

    Any linked with travel?
    Community transmission?
Was the HSE in touch with them before now and asked them to isolate?

I wish the HSE would stop with this east, south, west nonsense and tell us exactly where the cases are so we can be more vigilant if it's in our area. Also there would be another benefit in letting the public know. There might be better containment. Eg. If I was to wake in the morning with cold like symptoms like a sore ear, sinus problems, dry mouth, cough, - I would probably think it's a cold and get up and continue with my day. If the virus was in my village or town, I would be more inclined to self isolate.

I'm genuinely concerned there are enough of those kind of people that could very soon start pushing for a herd immunity type approach so they can go back to their pubs and watch their sport again.

I'm actually stunned how many people seem unable to cope after a couple of days of "staying inside", as if it were a form of torture to them. It's beyond comprehension. These people now seem like our biggest threat.

Artisic people dont have a problem staying in and being confined. They waste alot of time trying to keep alot of the outside world out anyway!
Nine to five, drinks at the weekend people need to rediscover their artistic side, it can be done ,,,just have to find a way of keeping the kids and all others occupied first

The pub across the road and those sheep shaggers outside of Dublin will soon have their taps run dry and there will be no more coming.

    Sorted.

'Sheep Shaggers' indeed. We have our own sources here.

If they had any decency they'd be closed now. Any pubs open tonight should be named and shamed and hopefully sees a drop in trade when they reopen. Theres even lads in the north closing of their own accord

As an englishman living in ireland and looking at the british and irish approach to the covid 19. Im glad i live here. Its just a shame my old man ( 75 years old ) is stuck now with the possibility of isolation for months back in england.
