Is there any videos from Italy from people affected or infected by the coronavirus or from the hospitals. Just curious to see what we may be in for in the weeks ahead.

Not videos, but I posted some news reports yesterday from the Washington post about people being forced to stay indoors with dead family members for a couple of days as undertakers weren’t able to immediately assist. One guy posted a picture of him in his flat with his dead sister for two days. Terribly tragic.

It's what Tony Holohan said when he was asked that very same question.

Oh Dr. Tony who wanted nursing homes to throw their doors open again and was upset they took action early to minimize deaths?

I have been full of genuine admiration and praise for the NHS and their extensive testing program, including the drive-in facilities.
However, the UK Gov is following France and Germany down the cliff.
What a waste of resources, having its research communities totally ignored, and one of the best health care systems in the World put in danger for the sake of herd immunity.
Postponing the local elections (as they have just announced) is one step, UK needs to learn from Italy and to follow the likes of Belgium, Austria and Denmark in taking more drastic measures.

Zika as well, though I think that with Zika there wasn't a danger of death, but rather of damage to the fetus. I think that microcephely was associated with zika virus infection, but I'd have to look it up to be sure.

It’s usually a mild infection in the mother. The big problem is microcephaly.
Also I think that zika is only from mosquitoes?
Mostly, but also by sex, mother-to-child and blood.

First professional athlete in the US with a confirmed diagnosis.

Yes. We a hard border with the north and stop all travel from uk

I don't think a hard border is realistic. Perhaps appealing to the DUP-SF government of NI to carve out a policy distinct from Westminster on this matter may be advisdable. I know that Arlene Foster was unhappy that Varadkar had not shared his plans of a school shutdown with her.

We all go into isolation and get this thing under control, then one infected ****er starts it all again. What is the end game here with a vaccine a year away.

    Living out in Warsaw.
Government just locked down the country, Slovakia and Czech Republic shut down their borders too.
All flights in and out banned from Sunday, everything apart from pharmacies and food stores will be closed from tomorrow.
So to be honest, I would imagine it's a matter of time until Ireland decides to follow suit.
I'm just staggered at the UKs stance.

Are the supermarkets and pharmacies open their usual hours over there or are they trading through condensed hours?

Yes, but our government is putting the feelings of republicans above the public health of the rest of us. The border to Northern Ireland should have been closed once their government showed us their plan yesterday.

    Good luck closing it.

I think we should do the same, along with closure of all pubs or nightclubs. I think restaurants and cafes for the moment could stay open as long as they can provide sufficient distance between tables.

Yes people still need some kind of life.

I genuinely don’t see why they ask that children don’t play with each other yet leave pubs open.

To date they have only really been testing people who have "known" contacts, plus clearly some more who have presented with symptoms - I suspect quite serious symptoms to warrant tests

They have only now decided to test anyone with no know "connections". I think there will be a significant uptick in cases once this works its way through into the figures

Simple answer: children don't earn a living or have bills to pay. There's no option for the catering or drinks industry to work from home. This is actually a quite a big issue if we're being honest.

He could be. Judging by the amount of ambulances and fire brigade I doubt it.

They mistakenly think grown adults are reasonably intelligent.

Needs a full Italy style lockdown to force the alco's to stay at home out of crowds.

Poland announcing full block on international flights and trains etc.

Not sure how it's gonna work, but they just did.
