I don't really genuinely think there's anything positive.

    Of course there is.

Don't let the gloom descend. Don't let the hype take over.

We are in mid March, the weather is improving. Many people will get downtime, more sleep and more family time.

There is lots to be positive about. We will get beyond this.

    Personally I can't wait for Covid 19.
    The album.
With killer songs such as "Covid-19" sung to the theme of "Come on Eileen" and that smash hit by Twisted Sister "I wanna Stock! (pile)"
    Guaranteed stocking fillers this Christmas.

'I want to break free' by Queen, sung by those in quarantine

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

Agreed. If there is a positive it’s this. If the problem manifested itself towards the end of October there would be more justifiable concern, heading into a cold winter wouldn’t be a great thing with this hanging over us.

Now we can get out to parks, walking, being active without adding to the ‘risk’. Keep yourself and your mind busy and active, a cheery demeanor and in time this will pass. In no time it will pass.

Dangerous, it will only lead to more dehydration though and put more thorough demand on water stocks. Every ‘upside’ has a ‘downside ‘.

One positive is that all companies that have been dragging their feet over introducing working from home will be getting the finger out now to get up and working.

I have it on good authority that the perennial trolley crisis in A&E seems to have disappeared! Where have all the emergencies gone?

When the doctor who treated patients in University hospital Limerick tested positive for the virus The A&E department had one of its quietest weekends ever. Just goes to show how many people attend A&E and really don't need to.

100%.. back in 2016 I ended up in the Mater A&E and it was a real eye opener, very few people seemed to have been in an accident or in an emergency situation. Seems to be an Accident & ‘ok my GP isn’t open till Monday so I’ll come here and get looked at’ situation for 2/3 people.

We're averaging less than 10 posts a day in the Gangland Shootings thread and no cards or bans in a couple of weeks or more....

Is there an element of natural selection going on here? The old and sick are most likely die.

The problem being when you get sent to A&E by the GP. It seems to be the path of entry for almost everything.

That's not really natural selection though, as they've likely had any children they were ever going to have.

I'd love if the OP was right about working from home. I've mentioned in several threads over the last few months how it would answer a lot of our problems.

    Less traffic congestion of course.
    Better for the environment.
More family/friends time as less commuting.
    People having more money.
    People getting more sleep.

So many benefits for all and its so feasible.
But companies are mainly against it. They can't micro manage you as much at home.

Correct, and possibly reduced reproduction capability of the young, due to potential secondary effects of the virus.

Perhaps too for any vax (although this is less clear) it might still be a concern for other reasons, in the longer term:

I could mention how our local community has really pulled together or how great the traffic is but the thing I'm happiest about if I'm honest is that I don't have to iron another shirt until March 31st!

True, this attitude of “**** it sure you’ll be months on a waiting list, down to a&e”, it’s neither an accident or an emergency which is fûcking up the whole system from a resource and care perspective for those who need swift access to emergency treatment.

Seems our trolley crisis has been an overreaction from the typical Irish brigade.

    Lowest numbers waiting in years.

Yep but it's Simon Harris fault.

10wks away from peak in real terms, then another 10wks of epicurve reversal/reduction, so get used to the comfy joggers or lounge suit for a good bit longer than end of the month.

July/Aug should be fine, even post-pandemic optimistic.
But beware of a November Wave2.0

There are a number of positives:

    1. Lower house prices in many locations.

    2. Lower interest rates generally.

    3. A la Buffett... In a short while it'll be the time to be greedy in the stock market while others are fearful. All the hardest hit stocks ( airlines etc ) should recover spectacularly well.

4.The public might support proper funding/resourcing of the health services going forward after the blood toll the staff are about to pay.

    5. Introverts will be proven right all along.

    6. Working from home will become commonplace in lots of sector.

    7. People will understand a lot more about epidemiology and exponentiality.

I wouldn't trade any or all of that for a loved one though.

That's a result of a price war between the Russians and the Arabs, not directly related to the virus
