Nobody cares. Thats the sad truth.

Unfortunately I fear you are nearly correct. The people who do care are not in position to do anything effective.

Surely, the virus isn't serious enough to have the Junior and Leaving Cert exams either postponed or not take place at all this year, which would mean that LC students would have to be at school for another year.

I would think it is that serious, but that's just me.
Others may disagree, but I do think so.

Having said that, I do not have children, so I can appreciate your concern.

Does anyone browse any UK forums and judge their reaction to Cheltenham still going ahead? It was late enough in the day, but at least Ireland did cancel the parades whereas the UK is pushing on regardless. Surely our equivalent UK posters are in a frenzy at this point?

you could easily come up with some sort of robotic device that would do the constant squeezing, all you would need is a person to supervise each ward and check they dont slip etc.

It's early days yet for Ireland but it could be unlikely the exams will go ahead. No body knows and it will be a case of taking each day and each week as it comes. Hopefully we will pull through this.

My guess though is that they won't go ahead. Maybe the exams could take place in the autumn time.

I swim most days , we were all standing around talking about carona virus / precautions and then this guy does a double clear his nose on the path we all walk by , was going to pull him up on it , but would have been a row - but seriously some ****in people.

Can I ask - will you continue swimming every day after seeing that? Seems very risky to me.

would this work? Where would you get one?

No. It's one of the most bizarre recommendations I've seen ITT.

A bag valve mask is used for artificial respiration during resuscitation. It's nowhere near as effective as actual hospital ventilation.

Firstly, the average person would not know how to use it correctly or have the experience required to seal it properly or pump the correct volume of air at the right rate per minute.

A lot of that air would end up going into the stomach and cause the patient to vomit/choke on their own puke unless done right.

The technique required to seal these would make it unrealistic to do for more than 5 minutes at a time without having to swap.

Usually they need to be connected to an ET tube (intubation) which is an advanced medical skill usually done by advanced paramedics or an anesthetist.

I would hope that those returning from Cheltenham would self isolate for 14 days.

I would hope so too. As I said the two employees from Ervia did the right thing. They stopped it potentially spreading to their colleagues and their colleagues families who if vulnerable may be exposed through no fault of their own. I have no idea how it's been allowed to go ahead I don't.

We should close our borders and go into lock down. We could in theory manage this very well and have it cleared soon.

What I find most baffling and absolutely frustrating is the amount of experts we have on this forum and, somehow, a bunch of clueless idiots in government/HSE managing this situation. How has this occurred and what can we do to ensure we have the right individuals in place for any future epidemics?.

The whole of Italy is on lockdown.

I think you'll find no one gives a flying fiddlers fùck about the leaving or Junior Cert if this kicks off here .

True but you also need to bare in mind they tested over 2000 people in one day....the total we have tested since this has started is under that.

The symptom analysis is scary but then the age analysis explains it. Only 23.4% of cases are under 50? Only 1.4% are under 19? That shows that cases of young people with the virus are not being picked up as they have v little symptoms so the absence of such asymptomatic cases is skewing the symptoms data and making it look far more severe than it is (not that it isnt severe enough obviously)

I’d like to know how that compared the the age profile of the region too. I imagine you get adults are just as likely to contract it as older ones so unless there’s a huge population of older people that matches the above they must be missing lots of case.

    Social distancing to prevent infection

Michael Osterholm, PhD, MPH, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, which publishes CIDRAP News, said that the results challenge the World Health Organization's assertion that COVID-19 can be contained.
The findings confirm that COVID-19 is spread simply through breathing, even without coughing, he said. They also challenge the idea that contact with contaminated surfaces is a primary means of spread, Osterholm said.
"Don't forget about hand washing, but at the same time we've got to get people to understand that if you don't want to get infected, you can't be in crowds," he said. "Social distancing is the most effective tool we have right now."
We have come a long way since..
