I suppose it would help a little that we Irish are not a tactile people in general like those in southern Europe.

The terrifying aspect of the Italian death rate so far.
Is these deaths are in addition to all other causes.

Stroke, accident, cardiac arrest, aneurysm and myriad other every day events that bring patients to hospital where sometimes, they can be saved by appropriate support and intervention.

Those patients are now also dying because Covid-19 has a stranglehold on ICU beds and urgent care medics.

The adjusted death rate including all other causes in affected areas at the moment must be fúcking horrific.

But what about freedom of movement? I thought their hands are tied? It's an internal border but?

Who are they going to complain to? There is no one that’s going to listen to any silly wanker that thinks they have a case to take to Europe challenging a countries decision to close its borders. They’d have zero support.

they have 1000k new cases LESS than yesterday, that is a lot better yes, it's more than half

You need to look up medical statistics and how they’re reported on a Monday versus the weekend.

    Seriously.

I would think the big countries would have their top scientists working on trying to get a cure

As we're fond of international comparisons.... Interesting take on the package of measures announced by the government:

The bastards. It should've been €1,200 per person.

    Absolutely spot on.

I think that’s what most it’s just a flu didn’t get, the chain reaction if health services collapse because of an outbreak.

    today new cases 977
    yesterday new cases were 1,700
    that's quite a drop

theres always going to be a lag in the cases. If you think about it, and measures put in place today will take up to 14 days to feed through into the daily numbers (14 day incubation period).

So what did the Italians do 10 odd days ago? First lockdowns started around about 21st Feb...and that lockdowns only grew since then.

Hopefully they will start getting lower amounts of daily cases from now on in.
Still think they are looking at a spike in the south in about 2 weeks though (all the northerns that got wind of the impending quarantine and headed south).

A large increase In new deaths you mean?

Thankfully a large drop in new cases though, maybe their containment is starting to work.

Or theyve slowed testing and people have slowed presenting given stuff that has been published recently 're capacity issues in Italy's healthcare

I hope I'm wrong and they have slowed spread

If Italy’s numbers keep going up daily, at what point can the official numbers not go higher because they can’t test enough people?

I mean if they can only test , for example, 2000 people a day, they can’t officially ever raise the amount of people with the virus more then 2000?! So for example if they tested 2000 yesterday and found 1797 cases, that would be an even bigger concern of what sort of numbers are actually infected?!

They’ve tested just over 23k and 10k are positive!!!

Iran had a large drop in new cases but shot back up today toward 900.

Results can only announced for those tested of course.

That applies to every country, if you don't test you don't know
If the number of Italian new infected drops by 800 cases against the same 2K daily tests it's a good sign

Following the same bell curve as China and South Korea.
