Even if that comes to pass, it still doesn't tell us a huge amount.

All it tells us is that 10k out of 60m are infected.....(that would translate as less than 1k cases in the Republic if we get to March 10th Italy level).

It's the next 4-6 weeks or so that needs to be very closely watched in Italy.

You'd have to imagine that the custom of kissing cheeks as a greeting in Italy has had some effect on the spread of the virus at least in the early stages (as the practice has been suspended).

Italy has a lot of infected, more than the HSE can handle thus a lot of poeple can't avail of intensive care and die, that is the explanation

I think Italy's death rate is so bad because the health services are on the brink of collapse and cannot handle the volume of cases which is having a terrible impact.

I've read some harrowing reports regarding the choices doctors are making. We really all need to pay attention and embrace social distancing, & hygiene as guided by the HSE.

I think we'll have 4 or 5 new cases. We're tracking pretty close to the UK's numbers per capita, and they had a 17% increase this morning.

Italy doesn't have the capacity to handle the number of infected people
If the over 65 patients are not admitted to hospital it means they are going to die thus the high number of deaths

Seems likes theres a window between being one of the first to get it and one of the first to get it after a lock down. If your in the middle there, youre odds are taking a hit.

they have 1000k new cases LESS than yesterday, that is a lot better yes, it's more than half
