if there is a big jump today its reasonable to asume there was'nt adequate testing over the weekend.
How can there be much faith in the HSE if they cant be bothered to staff the labs in a crisis?

There is a "They", they're the EU.

Simon Harris has said it is not possible to close borders due to the free travel area within the Union.

    Such pathetic learned helplessness.

It won’t be the hses fault if there are more infections

Can we nip this in the bud?

Side note but .....“grandparents day”!! Did you ever hear such bo11ocks in your life? As if people aren’t busy enough these days without introducing crap like that. Also must be a real punch in the face for the kids whose grandparents have died.

Our school had it. Kids loved it. For those without grandparents they got to remember them or those grandparents not able to be there they joined in by Skype etc. Appreciating the elders of society is always good, and done far too little. Harris is talking out his hoop.

It is perfectly legal to close the borders temporarily. It is up to each individual member state and cannot be vetoed.

Harris gives of the vibe of wanting to place the blame for everything anywhere else but on him. He will take zero responsibility for any decisions that need to be made, and will wait till someone forces him into things, so he can wash his hands of the ramifications.

10 days since our first confirmed case and we have 0 recovered cases.

Bare in mind these people were infected days before they were even tested.

Why no recovered cases yet? What is the criteria for recovery, is it a couple of negative tests?

People seem to be taking ages to recover from a bad dose of this. I think 32 days was the median time to recovery. Though I believe most of those who sadly passed did so much quicker than that.

If you have enough of an immune system to fight for a while then odds are you will win it seems.

Not all of us have cars with running hot water unfortunately. Or travel on buses or trains that are equipped with the same.

Public transport is a high risk for catching this and yet people are constantly coming out with this gem, just wash your hands. Like we all have access to a sink all the time.

The confirmed infections are all in hospital, the reason they are there and not at home in self isolation is primarily they need to be studied.

I imagine they are being over cautious.

Our local schools have entertained this for the last few years. I'd imagine its a pain in the hole if you have a load of grandkids.

Viruses don't know what a border is. Otherwise the UK / Switzerland etc would be virus free.

Switzerland is part of the EU freedom of movement agreement. It got its outbreak from Italians traveling from Milan.

The UK seems to have been infected by three routes: one the guy who went to a conference in Singapore which had attendees who were from Wuhan, Chinese people coming directly into the UK (presumably from Wuhan), and also a some people coming into the UK from Northern Italy.

Italy would not have become infected had Germany put restrictions in place on people coming from China.

Now that all the people "in the know" have done their shopping Joe public can be informed of his imminent demise. :(

There are no problems with food supply in the shops and wholesalers. The panic stockpiling predicted here 2 weeks ago did not happen. The odd looper perhaps.

i suspect that headline is an idiot journo misreading the 50% of cases in 3 weeks modelling theory from the brits.
Ive seen a few people say 50% of all people will get it. so 1.9m would be half our population.
The prediction however is 50% of cases will be over 3 weeks.

This explains where the 1.9 million figure came from and why the head of the HSE can't dispute the figures at the moment.
    https://www.thejournal.ie/hse-chief-cant-dispute-1-9-million-5037746-Mar2020/

No evidence of any idiot journalism.

They can't if they are in northern Italy - Lombardy under lock down now.

Flights are still going in and out of locked regions in Italy, including Ryan Air. One Irish tourist spoke on RTEnews now earlier saying how he drove through three of the regions without being stopped. Videos on Twitter show no checkpoints etc.
    Maybe it'll change soon.

Yeah but what would you do with an entire cruise ship?

Maybe park it off Dublin as part of the housing solution ...
