People seem to be taking ages to recover from a bad dose of this. I think 32 days was the median time to recovery. Though I believe most of those who sadly passed did so much quicker than that.

If you have enough of an immune system to fight for a while then odds are you will win it seems.

Thanks, I had noticed there is a long period for cases to recover.

So I'm guessing the 14 day isolation period is pretty useless then.

Can we nip this in the bud?

I think we can nip it in the bud or at least slow the spread by government, employers, employees, and other parties to act responsibly and do what is need to stop spreading.

having a debate here with her indoors.....could we see schools close nationwide in the coming weeks IF the cases here soar ?....her indoors maintains its not workable with parents working etc....but i see other reports saying gatherings of children as potential carriers are high risk as it'll be hard to keep them washing hands etc.

A national health emergency with carona virus and clown shoes varadkar off on his holiday to the states to have his photo taken.
    Good lad lieo.
Finish up as you started I suppose.at least he’s consistently useless

Not much point criticizing him if you can't point to another politician who would have done a better job. The only person who even mentioned quarantine and travel restrictions seems to have been Stephen Donnelly

Another impact is pension funds being wiped out due to this. This is going to be felt for a very long time, even if the virus itself is contained.

Yes, it will. And yes, there will be.

    How so?

They’ve been all over the radio and tv the last week and especially over the weekend raising awareness and talking facts

They aren’t spreading the infection ffs

People in this country would make you want to hang you head off a wall I swear

As I'm due to travel to NYC on Thursday I've been following the Mayor of NYC and the Governor of NYS on Twitter. They had to apply serious pressure on Federal Government to increase capacity for testing in the state. I presume other states are the same.

There was an inadequate number of testing kits and a ridiculously long wait for approval of private labs to participate in testing. Both of these issues have been rectified so expect numbers to surge massively.

Aside: To the poster who ridiculed grandparent's day in schools. It is an absolutely gorgeous day in our school once every two years. Those without a grandparent can bring a grand aunt or uncle or older close friend/neighbour. Stories are exchanged about schooling and being a child in the 'old days' and the guests are treated like royalty with a makeshift cafe and enteratainment provided by the kids. Why be so judgy? Let nice things be nice.

Halted some trading, the stocks are crashing badly. There was a clear sign this was going to happen last week with investors flocking to gov bonds.

If that's the case be prepared to see a lot of businesses operating on skeleton staff because parents will be at home with said kids.

Can't dispute just means they are not in a position to dispute that as their model is incomplete not that it will happen. It's reckless stuff if it hasn't been qualified.

This is complete hosesh1t tbh, look after your own personal health and don't attend. Dont depend on a nanny state to make all the calls for people.

Sure if it's on you might as well attend.

I find it hard to understand how people don't understand what is meant by containment.

It doesn't matter if you don't personally attend the parade, but the person serving you in the supermarket attended and picked up covid-19 along the way.

S&P500 has tanked this morning, triggering circuit breakers as investors dump stocks. Panic in markets is a symptom of a bubble - unlike a bubble, it does not go "pop" but unravels as the markets correct. Watch this space.

There is 149 cases in the whole País Vasco.

    100% schools will close.

The country will enter into phase 2 shortly.

Many schools are taking Monday and Tuesday off next week.

They could pull the trigger then, shut it down for a month a couple of weeks of that all ready being Easter.

If you read between the lines of no real information, it's all being setup for a shutdown.

Well don't we as individuals fall under employees or employers ? My approach is to not be "ah sure til be grand" but not to be "we are doomed I tells ya" either.

What’s with the Cheltenham obsession? English football went ahead all weekend all over the country. Liverpool are playing Madrid on Wednesday evening!

Why so obsessed about that one event?

Nobody knows what will happen. It was described as a prediction based on modelling.

Irish health authorities predict 1.9m people will fall ill with coronavirus
Up to 50 per cent of cases projected in a three-week period,

There is a "They", they're the EU.

Simon Harris has said it is not possible to close borders due to the free travel area within the Union.

He's lying. There are exemptions to pretty much all EU edicts where public health or national security issues arise:
There are limitations based on considerations of public security, public policy, public health grounds
    https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=457

Same for GDPR - it doesn't apply where national security or public health considerations take precedence.
