So going on the HSE recommendations if you have the symptoms you're fine unless you've been to an infected area or have been in direct contact with someone who has it.
Am I paranoid but both my kids have temperatures, coughs, sore throat, one has a croup cough he gets when he's stuck like this and he has an inhaler for.
So according to the HSE (or other health executives elsewhere) they're fine because they've not been to anywhere with it or (knowingly) being in contact with someone with it.

    Paranoia level high :o:o

This is the problem. Half the country probably has some sort of cold. My kids do but that’s not unusual. If the coronavirus is spreading under the radar already how do we know who has it, and who has a cold. I assume the one person who was identified without knowing where it came from was probably quite ill.

It will be a bit surreal on the day Ireland announce more new cases in a day than Wuhan

Traffic seemed lighter than usual for a Monday around d14\16\18 regions. Seems more and more ppl working from home, though I can't speak for Luas traffic - would have thought that some of those who need to get to town would drive instead.

Mass would be a dodgy place to be; most of the country's elderly population sitting together for 45 minutes.
Funerals also where everyone comes up to shake the family members hand.

I thought it was funny (but also worrying) how they said they weren't giving people communion in their mouth but are still happy to put it in their hand with the ministers of the Eucharist having already handled it themselves

Sacrifices will be made either way. Better do it while problem still manageable.

So how exactly does WHO support Italy?

    Are they Cheerleaders or something?

My asthma is not good at the moment. I've got some steroids today to treat it.

Doctor told me to avoid leaving home and to work from home or not at all as people on steroids will have a much higher risk profile if they catch the corona-virus.

So, house bound for me for 7 days. Job is ok with it luckily.

Glad my doctor is taking the infection seriously and giving me good advice.

This will last a lot longer than 7 days tho, sorry to be pessimistic, I think we are looking at May when this will start slowing in Europe - at the earliest ...

But what can you do I need to be working and if I said to the higher powers that I was uncomfortable or stressed working I think I would be laughed at
I would honestly love to see the schools close for a month now and see how the virus plays out and would have no bother coming back a month early to make up the time if I knew that the virus had settled down during the summer months or a vaccine might be closer

It's a numbers game. Just be super vigilant if their are sick kids. Practice good hygiene and wipe down surfaces to minimise spread. If there is a sick kid and you feel should be at home go to whoever and tell them shouldn't be here.

Good article in the Irish times about the Spanish Flu and how it affect lower and middle classes back then. Main difference is they didn't have to work / interact with people if they didn't want to. Nothing has changed it seems.

Anyone else lying in bed thinking of excuses for not going to work and not brave enough to say it's because you fear getting the virus or passing it on to others

Haha, yeah. Well they suggested measures to adopt to limit the spread.

Italy waited 2 weeks, let it spread, then implemented them.

It makes a huge difference in having a good GP ours rang us on Friday to see how my son is , his immune system would be very poor , GP gave us all prescriptions and extra medical supplies to get us over a month If needed and he also told us to seriously consider pulling him out of school for the next 3 weeks

Id say there's going to be a lot of people out in the fresh air over the next few months and walking the headlands, woods and beaches etc

Being outside in nature will be more social than ever.

The Yen is a traditional safe haven currency in a crisis. US T-bill yields have tanked which would account of the flow towards euro.

More rate cuts and QE (oops, I meant Repo operations) from the Fed I guess.

The expert on Morning Ireland this morning was saying it'll be middle of June or July when it's at it's worst, never mind start slowing.

To be fair, they have hand sanitizer at the alters and are using them..

Surely people coughing and sneezing in open air is better than doing it in the pub, I think it should go ahead.

If they are standing in a Force 8 wind and you are upwind of them fair enough. Not so good downwind. Bit like a rugby scrum.

My heart sank when I heard this on the radio. I had already had a look and our ICU beds are usually at capacity. The Guardian had already mentioned a triage for ICU for UK.
Lombardy's ICU is already overwhelmed after a few weeks. Older people won't be first on the list, but what about people with disabilities etc.

That bit scares me so much.

This is a very good explanation on how viruses spread through exponential growth and how reducing the probability of spread is important in reducing the overall numbers infected.

More than likely the fed will cut rates again by Friday, but I think they are doing it too quickly.
On another note the last week has seen a rise in Chinese buying up retail premises across Europe what are they up too

We’ve made the decision NOT to send my dad into respite this Friday. We are worried about him possibly catching it in a community hospital environment or even passing it on so the stress levels wouldn’t subside anyway.

Family rallying around so I’ll get a couple of days off to chill.

Quick Question: Did Fergal Bowers say on the radio this morning that there have been 1,000 tests performed since last weekend?

Asking only because the person that knows everything is telling me this and I'm having a hard time believing them.
