But if you cancel the parade(s), then you have to cancel loads of events on March 18th too.

Merely shutting down the parade would look like a PR stunt.
Well then you cancel loads of events. It's not rocket science, it just takes someone with balls to do this.

But as I say, the obsession with cancelling the parade is quite bizarre. It's a two hour event.....there are large gatherings of people every day of the week.

Impossible to contact trace an event that size.

The usual fake razor blade people on Henry Street have changed over to selling face masks hahahaha this is pathetic.

€3 each or 2 for €5.....I'll be posting this in bargain alerts lol

I can understand the arguments for doing it, but several experts have disagreed with the scientists proposing it and said the psychological effects on the nation could well outweigh any positives.

Ireland is not a near dictatorship like China.

Guess Italy's figures before they come out in a few minutes.

A night with Mrs Piggy (to take forever) on the line for the closest. :pac:

WTF is wrong with you really?

Govt : St Patrick's Festival or other major events not cancelled or postponed (Gavan Reilly - VM news)

Is this for real. There's a health crisis unfolding right across the world that will go down in history like the Spanish flu. 1000s of our European neighbours are sick with a new viral disease, and our government wants to continue with celebrations of at Patricks day. Very very very low of them.

The planet is not in crisis. There are 8 billion people on earth. A minuscule number of people have been infected and an even more minuscule amount have died. The vast majority, by a wide margin, of people who get this will be absolutely fine. It's not the walking dead. Get some perspective.

I'm afraid the planet is in an enormous crisis, pal.

You should probably go check the news

At this stage, its gone native anyhow, the parade isn't going to affect that, maybe speed up the inevitable? Honestly think its not worth the business impact to cancel it now given that.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Just heard that a local nursing home here in Dublin is restricting visiting.

    They all are. See https://nhi.ie/covid-19-coronavirus-nursing-home-care/

Cork City and youghal have cancelled their parades.
I think the rest of the city/counties should each come out and do the same.
    Who's in charge of Dublin?
Would it be the mayors or city/ county boards?

I would imagine the same is going to be applied to hospital visitors now too

Maybe Cork is the real capital as they seem to be making decisions quicker ☺

That's the reason to postpone, so you don't risk overwhelming the health system.

That doesn't mean there is Coronavirus there though. Given it's a nursing home the people in it are high risk so obviously the management don't want it getting in there to cause an issue.

That's pretty much how supply chains work. If people stayed calm the factories and supply chains would keep up for the most part.

Mass panic and stockpiling will empty shops and increase panic as shelves empty leaving many without essential items.

That's why I get annoyed by people promoting ott fear and panic buying.

If 25% of people bought a month+ supply of certain items those items would go out of stock for the other 75% of people unless there were stockpiles of those items which themselves will run out eventually.

Couldn't agree more. Although going to tesco in midst of a viral outbreak where some infected person touched your cornflakes. You wouldn't be long in running out of disinfectant or catching it.

Wait so that's 778 cases and 49 new deaths ? Jesus you'd be less likely to get sick standing in the exclusion zone at Chernobyl.

Yeah so should you. Most people recover from this just fine. It's not the end of the human race.

This thread gets more ridiculous by the day.

Vested interests who don't want to lose any money. Say if Leo or somebody senior in FG or FF got this, then we would soon balls appearing and gatherings cancelled.

I really don’t like when people compare our health system to the third world as it really undermines how awful the condition in developing countries actually are. It shouldn’t be in the state it is but by no means is it third world

I was in an hospital in the Philippines for 2 days, the standards were way higher than here actualy

Can't find any verification Cork has cancelled parade. Youghal and Cobh, yes. But not Cork itself.
