I missed it, what was asked and what answer was given?
Off the top of my head,

Roughly how many tests can you do?

Tests will be done in accordance with procedure, in that only close contacts of confirmed cases are currently being monitored. The number tested is to be announced weekly as per previous information.

Can't understand how some people believe a department that can't handle day to day running of the health service will suddenly be able to handle this.
    Fantasy land

In a way we all share some blame. We have been very apathetic to their failings.

Think Cervical Check and National Children's Hospital.

That’s the second time you’ve said that now - what’s your issue with Cork being named? Was Clare and Dublin not named with the other cases?
    Not by the HSE.

Just looking at the stats for Italy...41 deaths in 24 hours...that is a pretty scary figure imo

What did people expect the HSE to do? Some of the talk here is just **** talk.

People raging about flights from Italy. All these people were irish. We can't leave our citizens to be looked after by other countries. Good to see the amount cured increasing. The snowflakes generation we have here is fuelling the panic. Only 0.00027% of the population are infected.

Macho Bol*X. The percentage you quote is only those tested, tip of the iceberg. If you have elderly parents or a condition yourself you'd be concerned.

We could quarantine citizens returning from hotspots at the airport. If you ban flights to these areas there'll be no one to return.

Oh throw snowflake in for a few likes.

We definitely can't give up on containment. Most of the hospitals around my region have set aside 1-2 isolation rooms.

probably under 50 beds in the country if I'd hazard a guess.

Unfortunately this pandemic is also having a massive knock on effect on other medical procedures and emergencies. The side-effects alone are going to have massive health implications.
and we were already struggling with waiting lists and lack of resources. This is just the cherry on top.

Why cant whole wards be setup as isolation areas for minor cases.
China had gym etc converted for minor cases.

Bull**** numbers. There is absolutely nothing to back up that kind of infection and death rate.

There's enough people panicking without this kind of nonsense speculation.

WHO says the expect somewhere between 40 to 70% of the worlds population to be infected over the next 12 months or so.

The UK’s “reasonable worst case scenario” is 500,000 dead. The UK government released this information on Tuesday.

If you translate that number to Ireland it ends up as a little under 50,000. Now it shouldn’t be that high but people expecting a just dozens of deaths are deluding themselves.

    Wouldn’t hurt.

It actually could oh I am wearing a mask and gloves all safe now I can do what I want. Then take of 1 glove with a glove hand the 2nd with a bare hand and then touch something that might hold the virus

But we’re going to have 2/3rds of the population infected very soon.. despite this happening absolutely nowhere else, and most the countries with infections that we’ve seen have followed a similar graph!

But yes 2/3rd very shortly with 100s of thousands dead

A little piece of perspective and a deep breath wouldn’t go amiss here

Don't forget that it is obviously widespread in Ireland cos of lack of testing but that we should stop anyone from crossing borders to stop a disease that is here already from coming in.

The fact that patient in CUH was a patient earlier in the week and previously discharged should be quite worrying given the incubation period.

The patient could have acquired the illness as a patient.
He could have acquired it in the wider community.

However given that the HSE have said all personnel involved in the patient's care will be self isolating now for 14 days, with the commensurate loss of their labour!

The HSE really need to consider implementation of barrier nursing protocols.
Whatever else happens, our medical and care staff need to be given the highest level of protection possible.

If that means being treated by staff in appropriate PPE, then get it in place.

Dr Honohan on RTÉ at the moment really is a Golem, their is no cogent argument for the stance being taken.

I wonder if anyone has done any calculation to estimate the true number of infected in Northern Italy that would be needed in order to export the number of infections that it has. Theres about 6 or 7 in Ireland alone? Think Iceland has over 20 infections from Northern Italy, must be at least 200 or 300 known cases of tourists contracting it there worldwide now

I said it yesterday and it looks like I was right, they are still hiding many cases. There was as many as 50 yesterday evening, who knows how many there are now. They just can't announce them until they do a second test to reduce false positive rate and a meeting has been held to discuss the plan of action / PR announcement. The whole thing is farcical, no urgency to get the information out at all.

As much as we laughed at the whole Brexit debacle, and let's be honest, Brexit is a total ****show. We're now making a similar balls up of this while the Brits appear to be at least honest and upfront and handling it a lot better.

This is the kind of infection that require isolation rooms. A big flu ward would only exacerbate the issue i'd imagine. It'd be a big petri-dish and any staff working there would contract it also which is what happened in China.

But I'd imagine it would eventually come to this if needed. There no shortage of empty wards sitting idle in hospitals around the country.

Why did the HSE need to wait to tell GPs (let alone anybody) to self isolate for 14 days when returning from an infected area. This should have been the first thing that was said. That's the only way you could have actually contained this. They are morons.

This is a case that got me the most angry surely as a GP he should have known to self isolate especially if he was anyway sick given his job especially doing shannondoc

Have my first chest infection in years. Accompanied by a sore throat. Talk about bad timing. Would call in sick tomorrow but have essential work to do. Probably just a cold but would make you think seeing as I work in a multinational with workers from all over the World.
