You surely must mean "the South".

Everywhere else got a Provincial title, but Cork is different now. WTF?

Cork always has been, and always will be different. How disrespectful of you not to acknowledge that!

I knew about this case at 8am this morning, posted about it in the last thread.
Some posters above have been in the hospital since.

The HSE is making a complete fckuing balls of this.
Harris hasn’t got a clue what he is doing.

The HSE are becoming exposed as charlatans.

They will tell the public what we need to do but are exposing themselves that they had 0 planning and preparation.

    Nothing confirmed until briefing tonight

People mighty finally start to understand the consequences of an outbreak here which goes way beyond direct health effect of the virus.

If that’s true then that’s pretty stupid - unless he had underlying conditions, is it different if that’s the case?

Nearly as stupid as the doctor arriving home from Italy and heading into work.. HSE have only today asked health workers to stay at home if they have traveled.

They had outbreak written on the signs.

Hearing there will be a conference at 8pm to announce it

They announce lab results every night around 8pm. It will happen every day at that time.

To be fair to everyone concerned, I think this is something that is uncontrollable now, and cases will be popping up everywhere in due course. It is inevitable.

Feel sorry for all concerned, damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

My fist bump goes out to all front line health care workers who go and do their jobs whilst possibly being exposed to this, while many are stocking up on tomato sauce and pasta.

    Kudos to them.

Seems sensible in the circumstance, can they practice immediately?

Great opportunity for some Irish manufacture companies to increase their supply chains.

The time to act and prevent stuff like this has well past

Instead we have Dr Holohan telling us we have 1 case and dont expect any more

But hey we are gonna have a parade regardless

I heard there are a few cases in the regional Limerick this evening.

First Dublin then Belfast Clare now Cork! Are the flights still coming in unimpeded from Italy?

It may well be that the case in Clare was picked up and tested quickly due to being taken seriously as a medic and he knowing what to do. Other Italian returnees may not be so quick to spot or taken seriously?

It’s not outside anyone’s control to hold back information for At least 12 hours when contact is key for curtailing infection.

It’s actually very much within their control, but unfortunately the powers that be want to be grabbing the headlines.

The positive test in cork happened overnight last night, I just heard about it at 8am this morning. It’s completely unacceptable that this information is kept secret until 8pm this evening. It puts high risk people in additional danger.

Time to urgently reopen all the old A&E departments as quarantine/treatment zones.

Plenty of unused office space which could be used quickly for quarantine.

    theres been cases of re-infection,

Did you read about the 36 years old guy in Wuhan who was released from the hospital because was recovered and two days later he passed?
I hope there was some mix up in the results because of the chaos, otherwise scary.

Hearing there will be a conference at 8pm to announce it

They need to be doing 2 press conferences per day.

8pm is far too late in the day for announcements.

Should be at 9am/10am and then an evening on.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe so - Usually a year of training first as they are rotated through hospital departments.

I heard about wards being closed down at NUIG as well as a nursing home, hopefully that comes to nothing. :)

Did the CMO say that we shouldn't expect more cases?
I don't remember seeing that anywhere. Do you have a link?
