Realistically who in the right mind would do that? It's too much hassle. Airports bring out the worst in people sometimes. It's ridiculous and daft to fly eg from Italy to Germany or France or London and onwards to Dublin. It's absolutely ridiculous and no one in the right mind would do that.

If they already have paid for hotels, excursions.... or if you are an Italian who works here but has family in the north of Italy.
I’d bet you would do it, is not that much hassle to fly Milan- london and london - dub, or Milan- Paris, Paris - dub.

And currently she's right as only 2 people are infected....but if that number increase s exponentially like in other countries that won't be true any more
I think there's a lot of common sense talk about personal hygiene side of things, which may help mitigate future issues.

    Hopefully. Although, Singapore.

Also, the temps in Qom, Iran right now, are about our summer temps or higher, high teens or low to mid twenties.

Not sure if the numbers across regions like Africa or India are due to lack of testing, higher temperatures or just the time lag.

    Still so much uncertainty.

British tourist in Tenerife, not connected to the Italian 5. Temperature approx 23 degrees and those isolated all out in aair sunbathing

Exactly, which played an enormous part in the spread. If they hadn't been so selfish, it might have been a moderately bad virus contained within China.

This is absolutely China's fault and all the PC nonsense spouters need to have some sense knocked into them.

If any good comes from this hopefully it will be that Chinese disgusting and outdated practices will be outlawed. Practices that put innocent lives at risk the whole other end of the globe. But I doubt it.

Has the virus in Italy crossed the rubicon yet?

    That’s when it gets bad.

Nonsense. People will often pick the cheapest flights.
I often fly into Munich or Milan when I am going skiing in Austria or Switzerland.
It's often cheaper with more options and I love driving into the Alps.

Completely illogical. It's all about lowering the risk. Steps to curtail some some Italian flights must be done and be seen to be done.

Still holding out hope that higher temps lower the transmission rate, for the sake of regions like Africa or India. Not us though, most of our summers are sh1te.

We would look a bit imbecilic to say the least to be holding large gatherings and parades on March 17th with the rest of the world trying to control what will have escalated way beyond where we are now.

Ah sure it's only a flu!!!

Christ there is a fair few morons on the thread dismissing actual data on how serious it is. Same Imbeciles will spread the blood thing all over the place.

If only there was away to track people across borders. i.e someone rocking up who took a non direct route is turned back. By the way that's what happens every time your passport is scanned. You can see port of entry listings.

    Just be nice......
    Say ciao
Here's a ticket for free entry to Guinness storehouse.
Go on home now, see you next year.
Even throw in a "nice try"
    or if you are mean
"now you know how the africans feel crossing in their boats when they get turned around"

Paddy's day won't go ahead no matter what they say now imo. It'll be literally like that dog 'everything is fine' meme with the cases in other countries even if we get away with a lag before then.

They started SARS and didn't learn from that. If they want to live like they do, they could at least do the rest of us a favour and stop travelling to Europe to take in 21 countries in a week so they can go home and boast.

Current outbreak in Italy 100% down to people like that.

What a moron but if you go back to the first thread you will find I was one of the people saying what high average IQs the Chinese have.

People are scared and looking for somebody to blame.

In fairness there were towns in China that the population set up road blocks to keep people from the cities out.

Went into my pharmacy tonight for things, checked if they had any hand sanitiser left.

    Oh, how we chuckled :)

And what about all the Irish currently skiing in Italy, or visiting there for work or to see family? Do we just lock out our own citizens for the next 6 months? Many could have been there two weeks before the outbreak really took hold.

Keep in mind the two cases we have in Ireland are Irish people who've brought it home with them, not Italians here on holidays. Are you saying we should just close the borders and keep Irish people out, friends and family?

This makes for depressing reading if this is what it takes to control the virus in China:

Locked up inside his apartment complex for 40 days!!!!

    Interesting indeed.

He says the gates are chained to keep them in. Any reports on the earlier threads of people being locked into their apartment complexes were shrugged off as fake news.

I've seen people laughed at here for stocking up on food and being told the Chinese are in quarantine but there's been no shortage of food. He says you get some veg and a small amount of meat. Not a balanced diet and he's losing weight. He also says ..
"Price of food is getting very expensive now. For an example, what you will get for €20 now is two carrots, two red peppers and two heads of cabbage – that is it.” Jaysus!

Does anyone understand that if you try to reduce a risk that doesn't mean you have to eliminate it totally.

The argument seems to be shut down everthing or take no precautions at all. You can't postpone anything because some people will still come. So let's do nothing.

Yeah let's mitigate the risk airport by airport, region by region and then country by country and then nationality by nationality then we can restrict people of a certain age etc etc. Don't tell the virus our plans. We cannot close borders in the modern world for months on end. It's not feasible.

Even if it went ahead, many participants and visitors would stay away.

Like the rugby match, this is probably a case of waiting to see the official line for insurance reasons.

Experts confirm human to animal spread of coronavirus, dog found with ‘low levels’ of the virus

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/experts-confirm-human-animal-spread-coronavirus/
Last week the dog, whose 60-year-old human companion is in hospital with the illness, was placed under quarantine after nasal and oral samples tested “weak positive” for Covid-19.
The dog was first tested on February 26 and now three further tests have confirmed that the Pomeranian has low levels of infection.

Kinda mad when you think there were 1104 seasonal flu deaths today alone so far... That's even with a vaccine.

I think it shows how much we need to get a handle on this ASAP cos once this gets out, it's out for good.

Until a vaccine goes live. Or a treatment....

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer
