What I'm a little surprised hasn't happened is the airlines cancelling the flights out/to Northern Italy on the grounds of the safety of their crew (and certainly that no union has pushed for this).

Crew could be afraid to say boo too. They don't all have unions.

But it is up to the crew and the pilots I suspect.

This 15 minutes caper is a load of bull. Person could sneeze on you within seconds of been in contact without you.

Agreed. Maybe we should all carry stopwatches

Could a pilot or a blocklayer work from home?

a block layer could work at home if they work with block chain technologies

A month ago Italy had 2 cases - we're fooked

If we had the same death rate as China, where the number of new cases is declining, just 9 people will have died by the time our rate of increase declines. China has a much more authoritarian government which may have meant they could have imposed more draconian but necessary restrictions. However, we would better access to health services. Remains to be seen.

Have a look at the Australian's equivalent of the HSE website. They have a section about coronavirus and guidelne and under the guidelines they have advice for people to follow a balanced immune boosting diet.

Thanks, will take a look at that.

No cases in my state or city yet but its only a matter of time, all but one of the surrounding states have cases. The supermarkets are cleared out already though, pretty surreal. Glad I did my stocking up over the past few weeks.

WHO believe death rate will be higher outside of China rather than lower as previously speculated.

China got patients in treatment early and have highly sophisticated health care treatment procedures. They are really good at keeping people alive with this disease. They have a survival rate (with a mortality rate of just under 1% outside of Hubei province) for this disease I would not extrapolate to the rest of the world. What you’ve seen in Italy and Iran is that a lot of people are dying.

111 confirmed cases in the USA so far but they are facing serious issues with people having to pay to be tested and quarantined. A lot of people will not be coming forward under that scenario it's thought.

Really surprised people are having to pay for tests considering it's a public health issue. Its alright though, trump said hes going to "help them out".

Contact time shouldn't be the criteria. Observe ones own wellbeing and see from there.

China shut down cities of millions to contain it. They built hospitals with thousands of beds in under two weeks. Imagine us trying to do that!
Those hospitals are for show more than anything else.

The strict enforcement of isolation and quarantine is real though. I don't see us doing that. We'll push responsibility onto the individual, and then ignore it when individuals don't behave responsibly.

didn't release Italy banned flights from China as far back as Jan 31st.

people pointing out that people might have flown to a neighbouring country of Chinas and then snuck into Italy from another there, they might not want to say thats what they did so hide from authorities when they get sick.

Is it a race to see whether the second Ireland case ("eastern Ireland") is identified here or on Reddit first?
Shame that HSE think they are entitled to censor this. RTE still playing along with it, even while interviewing Mary Lou about her kids' school.
If there's a tangible reason above not wanting to scare people, perhaps they should voice that too.

Yup, nothing like throwing in mildly sick people with extremely sick people for a nice juicy virus load. Or people who just have a fevre.

Commandeering a few cruise ships to quarantine people under medical supervision would seem like a logical solution.

Would their health insurance cover the test?

Surely it’s more likely that the CCP are just lying their holes off? All glory to the party and all that.
