Who are these idiots compiling these fake letters and fake WhatsApps? What a sad life they must lead. Utterly pathetic to think of someone laughing away to themselves thinking they’re a gas bastard. Too much time on their hands.

Isn't this what social media is for - having a laugh (and showing off)?

I am off to Tennerife (Adeje as it happens, diff hotel about 1 km away from the quarantined hotel) in 10 days and I am heading to Dublin this weekend.

Should either place become an official no travel zone by the DoH, then I won't travel and my travel insurance will cover me (obviously not for the Dublin trip).

There will be plenty of hand washing on route, but apart from that not much else to be done really...

That's exactly my attitude as well, if travel advice is issued to avoid certain countries etc then i wont travel and of course follow the advice.

Until that happens its a case of like you say more handwashing etc.

You are MASSIVELY naive if you think there is only one case in Ireland... You need to do a little research on the incubation period for this new virus and you need to understand Pre-Symptomatic and Post-Symptomatic spread. Pull your head out of the sand. We need to act now or is 7-14 days time we will be like the UK which is seeing daily cases. The next 2-4 weeks will make or break Ireland in its containment procedures.

But sure its "grand" let Paddys day go ahead, invite 10's of thousands of people into one area and lets plane loads arrive for the festival... 2-3 weeks after paddys day cases will explode.

Don't be silly. The HSE says we are grand. Low risk of infection and transmission they said. We are grand.

That letter about the band practice. This is what worries me. Its taking days for them to contact people, and by letter it seems!

Lets say one of those kids had the sniffles. It takes several days to receive a letter (assuming they even receive it). They then self isolate. Problem is, as it took so long to contact people, that person, who assumed it was just a cold, has probably spread this to other people.

We have received similar in text from school today , with guidelines from HSE, finally.
All enclosed within text, not letters, so pretty immediate.

Have been off this for 2 days and tried to read back but gave up.
Lot of sxxxe from deniers still , who give out about people supposedly panicking , just because they are concerned for themselves and their families. Not everyone on boards is a healthy twentysomething with only themselves to look after so have a care.
Fact is there are a lot of people who have to arrange for probability of work and school being disrupted over next few weeks as well as making sure if we get sick ourselves that our kids won't starve.
We have not been given adequate information until now by the HSE , and parents from the closed school made this very clear at the recent meeting with them 2 nights ago.
Surest way to encourage panic and spread of misinformation is a lack of adequate and appropriate information.

It's not fake. HSE initially denied the letters, but then confirmed them, and said it's the same case as Drumcondra.

I don't know but it's possible. He may not be the best example when younger people seem to be recovering better than the elderly and those with other conditions.

He could hold some answers to why the young are recovering the way they are.

    I hope he’s doing ok.

    What I've learned today:

    1. If you see somebody collapsed in the street, stick to protocol and immediately record them with your phone.

    2. Washing your hands regularly with anti-bac soap leaves them sore, dry and irritated

    3. The cure for COVID-19 may come from the heavens in the form of a 4km wide piece of space rock.

Because ireland (republic) cannot dictate wether Belfast stays open, there are boats arriving every day with cargo, passenger ferries also have to run to export goods. Do you ban Irish citizens from returning? Its idiotic and impossible to implement

Ports and airports closed to passengers . Cargo continues to move. Some kind of border control in place coming into the Republic. You say that's impossible but plans for this would already have been drawn up in case of a no deal Brexit. I'm talking about 3 weeks to 1 month. It's nowhere near impossible. That's just a lazy attitude.
You want to either stop transmission of the virus or not. China managed to lock down 50 million people. The problem within the EU is open borders and no central control. Different governments with different opinions and facilities available. We as an island still have a chance to contain but people won't take the necessary steps.

You can wash your hands all day but if you continue to allow free movement of people you are p1ssing against the wind sir

Do you think US sanctions have contributed to the rapid spread in Iran?

    In which way?

Might have reduced healthcare budgets but I think it is becoming clear the main factor is poor management by the local authorities at the early stages.

The Chinese were (rightly) criticised for ignoring the issue at the early stages but it seems like to me Iran was worst in terms of covering it up (even as of today, everyone gets a feel the situation there is getting very severe, but they won’t officially admit it). And once the Chinese accepted the severity of what was going on they started to do the right things, but I am not sure Iran has. I for exemple read that instead of isolating patients they actually sent them from hospitals in the original cluster to hospitals in other cities in order to spread the load on hospitals - which if true was an awfully bad decision.

And while it is of course just a small issue from a medical perspective, there is the infamous footage of the deputy health minister saying everything is fine while looking clearly unwell and being infected by the virus. Doesn’t exactly boosts the government’s credibility :-/

Plans for Brexit didn't envisage closing Ireland off to the UK in event of no deal, yet alone the rest of the world.

WTF... .there is ONE, ONE confirmed case, who do you think you're catching it off if you travel today?

Let me introduce some others who believe there is only 1 person in Ireland with coronavirus.

I'm referencing the border between north and south .

Closing the airports and ports is not impossible as your man says. But it's not going to happen. There is no will to actually take steps required so keep buying the sanitizer and hope the chap beside you on the bus hasn't been in contact with an infected person overseas. A week or so ago media was reporting on news cases. This person just came back from China or that person is back from Italy.
Remove adding new cases brought in from abroad by closing points of entry and isolate anyone showing symptoms. Control the problem .

But it's not going to happen. C'est la vie

It's been shot down by Israeli air defence but unfortunately for them, the meteorite landed in Tel Aviv.

I was in Lidl in Bray just there. All shelves were fully stocked.

They even had a supply of the 79c hand sanitizer gel. They were going fast, mind you.

Eh not really when it’s complied like an official HSE letter. Why are you defending moronic behaviour?
