Things must be bad there when China is evacuating some stranded citizens from... IRAN?
Staff at the Chinese Embassy in #Iran confirmed with GT on Tues, the first charter flight will arrive in Iran tonight to evacuate Chinese people from Iran. GT learned that some Chinese students stranded in #Qom have registered for the flight.

They will probably be quarantined on return...

Because there are no ferries between the UK/Europe and Ireland?

Do you shut Belfast as well?

I presume it's the same kid from Glasnevin who attended band practice in Clontarf who has triggered that self isolation alert for band members?

Been following this guy for a few days. Grim stuff. Lots of those people collapsing in the street videos too, similar to what was coming out of Wuhan in the early days.

You would be better off not following rubbish like that. Most if not all of those videos showing people collapsing in the street have been shown to be fake or related to other incidents. This virus simply doesn't cause those type of sudden onset collapses.

You would assume this is the same existing case with the letter dated as yesterday and no new cases yesterday

WTF... .there is ONE, ONE confirmed case, who do you think you're catching it off if you travel today?

I didn't say I think I'll catch it. I said that it's almost impossible to maintain a six foot distance from other people while going about your daily life.

That guy collapsed by the phone could have been on the batter last night.

Not sure though, wasn't he tested on the previous Thursday and results released on the Saturday?

If he was being tested surely they would have had him isolating until results were in?

I know all that. @pc7 was asking if we are using CT scans to confirm corona.

The first case here has already tested positive by laboratory analysis and may have had a CT as well to determine if he has developed pneumonia.

China had been using CT scans as part of their protocol but that may have been because they couldn't get through the volume of swab tests.

Would they possibly use the lad as a case study whilst the time and resources are in place to check him for everything?

Yes but we're discussing a situation if it becomes more widespread. In that instance we seemingly should not be concerned over the odd random infected stranger coughing near us for a few minutes?
What an idiotic suggestion, which airports do you close? Do you think this would stop people entering the country?

Dublin, Belfast, Shannon, Knock, Cork, Waterford, Kerry etc. We don't have that many and even fewer ports with passenger ferry services..

How else do people get here? Swim, paraglide?

Serious question are there any guidelines to deal with virus derangement syndrome? One of my relatives is climbing the ****ing walls over it, they'll be in a home for the bewildered by the weekend at this rate

You are MASSIVELY naive if you think there is only one case in Ireland... You need to do a little research on the incubation period for this new virus and you need to understand Pre-Symptomatic and Post-Symptomatic spread. Pull your head out of the sand. We need to act now or is 7-14 days time we will be like the UK which is seeing daily cases. The next 2-4 weeks will make or break Ireland in its containment procedures.

But sure its "grand" let Paddys day go ahead, invite 10's of thousands of people into one area and lets plane loads arrive for the festival... 2-3 weeks after paddys day cases will explode.

Ah here, lainey. You were on that tube train and you’re not a Brit, are you? Who’s to say that everyone apart from you was a “Brit”?

Can you make a point without generalising?

I don't necessarily mean born and bred Brits, I mean people who live and work there and have picked up that selfish attitude. I don't think it's a generalisation to say that people on the whole in London are tremendously self absorbed.

Yeah it's really not very hard to get someone to lie down and then take a video of them.

You mention children in your above post and forget to mention there is not a SINGLE death worldwide recorded of a person under the age of 19.

Stop listening to sky news and do some research.

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/

No recorded deaths under age 10, not 19.

Alcohol in Iran is prohibited for Iranian citizens by law since the establishment of Islamic Republic government in 1979.

Im sorry but I don't simply dismiss something because its on twitter. Have you looked at the tweet or this guys profile? Or are you dismissing it out of hand. Please also show me where and who proved these videos in Wuhan to be fake, specifically the collapse videos. I've not seen any source being able to explain these videos.

Id suggest you go and read that chaps tweets over the last few days before dismissing him so quickly.

Lastly, how do you know? And if it isn't related to Coronavirus, what is it related to? Some other disease which is responsible for dozens of people collapsing in the last week? Some very, very elaborate well performed fakes if they aren't real, whatever the cause.

UK government has put worst case scenario as 80% of the UK population infected, with a mortality rate of 1%, around 500,000 deaths.
I wonder what the most likely scenario is considered to be by them?

Close Irish airports for one month. All ports of entry actually. Quarantine and treat any cases here.

Your attitude of not closing anywhere is allowing the virus to continue spread

Paddy's Day and Cheltenham really need to be cancelled for us to contain this! and that idiot Des Cahill saying it be a shame for the parade to be cancelled because of all the effort people have put in to the floats

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,147 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

If the St. Patrick’s Day parades are cancelled it will make the news all over the world. This will send out the signal that Ireland is a dangerous area to travel to with a high risk of infection. This in turn will lead to mass cancellations by tourists and huge losses and potential business failures in the Irish tourism industry.

Is this proportionate if our confirmed case number remains at one or even increases by a couple?

    I don’t think so.

That letter about the band practice. This is what worries me. Its taking days for them to contact people, and by letter it seems!

Lets say one of those kids had the sniffles. It takes several days to receive a letter (assuming they even receive it). They then self isolate. Problem is, as it took so long to contact people, that person, who assumed it was just a cold, has probably spread this to other people.
