I'd say the last place to be is in a hospital as this takes off.

I am absolutely loving following the hysteria around this cold.

    Yawn

According to a friend that’s a doctor in a cork hospital, they are not equipped for it and are terrified of it actually coming. They are getting training in it next week and getting equipment like suits and stuff but say they really aren’t equipped if there was to be an outbreak.

We really need to up our game

Well I personally wouldn't let something like this worry me, but I have elderly parents with weakened immune systems... so yeah, definitely this "cold" is a concern for me.

I assume Nigera is one of the African countries capable of testing.

Would you not be more worried about the ones that can't test?

No. It's a very poor country with half of its population living on less than $2 a day. So healthcare wouldn't be great to say the least. Plus it has a population of 200 million.

    Really?
First case in my office confirmed here in Germany. Half the guys team have been sent home for two weeks. This is in Munich. I reckon a full shutdown is coming by the end of the week.

They have been effectively ignoring it until a week ago, i was in hospitals and the signs everywhere still only warn anyone whose been in china in the last 2 weeks.

Also flights from effected areas should have been stopped weeks ago

What flights from 'effected'(sic) areas should have been stopped weeks ago?

There were no flights from China to Ireland so it would be difficult to stop these. The cluster of cases in Italy was only discovered on February 21 so it would have been required a crystal ball to stop flights from Italy weeks ago.

No dot in NI on this ? And the Republic dot is in the Midlands ... not very accurate ??

Yes, the numbers are by nation and the exact location is not tracked.
It's more usful as a global overview not for tracking things locally.

Personally I'd also be concerned about the seriously high number of cases being reported of mumps. 263 in the past week and more so far this year than all of last

Gonna be huge money on a test to detect the virus in shortest time possible.

Incredible we've tested so few people. It's almost like they don't want to find any cases.

It’s included in the UK total.

I'd imagine there's very little time for training and very few people who can be assigned to preparation when the hospitals are permanently overcrowded and staff overworked.

Is there anything to be said for a bit of Echinacea...?

Yes. Not that I want people to die but it's interesting to witness how the thing is all over the news and spreading like crazy.

We don’t know how many we’ve tested, in a week, since we’ve had the first case and Italy.

There’ll be a hell of a lot more than 90 tomorrow

This is a new virus, it is not the flu.

If I understand the criteria correctly it means that regardless of a person having every symptom they will be denied a test unless they've been to Italy/China/S.Korea/Iran or in contact with the Glasnevin student? :pac:

According to Newstalk this evening we'd be stretched at 20 cases in hospitals nationwide. I think that's what people are missing we have no means to handle 100 extra patients in ICU right now. If it takes off it'll kill tens of thousands.

You can talk about 1 million cases if you like but the fact is we still only have one case after X amount of weeks.

ridiculous comment to make. A number of elderly people are very anxious about this and I can certainty understand why

Reading that reminded me of Father Ted, on the plane, where Father Flynn draws a picture of himself in the nip, with a dog...

Thankfully it's not taking off in Ireland. There's only been one case in Ireland and it appears as if Ireland is immune from this thing spreading. There's a parade in a few weeks and we have a taoiseach who needs to show off his pink socks.
