Ok so the FEMA /mass round up/ theyre coming to take our guns conspiracies have started on reddit. Now I know for sure this will all come to nothing. Some people will get sick, the vast majority will recover just fine and life will go on.

    It's not a static risk.
What was the risk in Italy 6 weeks ago? What is it today?

Measurement of the risk of an infectious disease by current count in this country is neither here nor there. Why was the rugby match cancelled if the risk was only 0.00001%?
Why take any measures whatsoever for 0.00001%?

Which is why the Irish authorities are monitoring everything closely on a day to day basis.

They can't start shutting down everything on the basis that things 'might possibly' worsen in coming weeks. Btw, a doctor said yesterday on RTE Radio that he thought the decision to cancel the Italy rugby game was very premature : he says they should have waited a week at least to see what was actually happening, there was no need for a rushed decision.

Italy has nearly 1700 cases now, jesus that was fast considering they quarantined several towns.

    https://www.thelocal.it/20200301/coronavirus-cases-italy-latest-numbers

34 deaths, 2% rate based on current figures.

Doesn't it only have 1pc mortality rate? That's just a bit more than the normal flu?

My sister has a trip booked to Rome for next Thursday to Sunday, she want's to go after paying for it. How likely is it that she'd contract it?

With current rates in Rome. Probably less than 1 in a million

Currently, the best estimate of mortality rate for coronavirus is about 2.3% which is much greater than the flu. It could be more or it could be less given time but nobody doubts it is much deadlier than the flu. Its infection rate is 2.2 which is greater than the flu. If governments were to treat it like the flu then it would cause havoc. That's why governments are so stringent in their reaction.

Mortality will likely be alot less than 2.3%; I think less than 1% is currently quoted.

Mild and minimally symptomatic cases will or may not be included in the current total estimates

Do we think Cheltenham will go ahead Tuesday week?

Roughly 280,000 in attendance over the 4 days

Yeah i'm in the same boat. Have followed it with great interest and a lot of the same people who scoffed at the outbreak in Wuhan posting stupid insulting pictures of Chinese people on Whatapp etc.. at the beginning are now bitching about Cheltenham maybe being cancelled as if like that's an issue here.

Some of the slow ones are finally grasping the gravity of the disaster we are now facing.

The worst part is that now people are beginning to take me seriously and heed my advice, they can't act on it because the supermarkets are getting panic run'd and the pharmacies are well out of stock.

Seems that a school trip brought the virus to Ireland. Time to ban all school trips. https://www.thejournal.ie/coronavirus-case-ireland-covid-5028780-Mar2020/

Why is Italy and Iran handling the virus so badly? outside of the epicentre in Wuhan these two have shot into 2nd and 3rd place on the death tolls in a week.

They both do that double kissy greeting thing.
Well probably not now. The damage is done.

I doubt it, 35 cases in UK and rising. Italy up to 1,700 now and started at a similar rate. This next 5 days will be very telling

Based on current figures 2-3%. That's at least 20 times higher than 'normal flu'.

The current risk may be what you say.

However, if lets say 5,000 people travel (probably a bit generous) from Italy travel to the match and a couple of them have coronavirus and they spread it to a few in the stadium. The few in the stadium return home on a bus to Galway, Cork etc... you get the idea

Cancel the match to reduce risk.

But the vast majority of Italian fans who booked flights and extorionate accommodation here will come over next weekend and with no game on in the stadium will go to the pub and if infected will spread it worse indoors than if they were at the stadium.

Personally I don’t think it should, I will be surprised and disappointed in the UK authorities if it does, it should be cancelled.

    Not a chance.

Behind closed doors the most likely.
