They just happened to be the next 2 hotspots imo.

Reckon France and Germany will be battling it out for second place in the coming week.

With a US hotspot too, if they get testing.

Yeah, I think I'll take a break from threads like this. There's only so much quasi informed idiocy and hysteria I can stomach.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

by rights after a month and by its location it should be asian places but this clearly shows that Italy is woefully prepared for these things and odds are so are most western countries.

We are not as good as we like to thing we are in the west, this proves it.

My sister has a trip booked to Rome for next Thursday to Sunday, she want's to go after paying for it. How likely is it that she'd contract it?

Fuel has to be loaded into coal fired power stations.

    Moving parts to be maintained.

    Fuel has to be delivered.

I could go on but I know very little about power generation it appears you know even less.

Coal fired station hasn’t run in 3 months in the south. It’s all gas and that doesn’t need to be handled

Honestly how can anyone answer that?
You can look at the infection rates for Italy but it will be a guess.

The Chinese method is the only show in town if there's an outbreak.
It's what the WHO are advocating.

Matt Hancock was just today openly talking about shutting down entire UK cities.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but if there's a sizeable outbreak it is the only course of action.

Slowly but surely the pressure will increase on western governements to lock down their countries but right now we are still in the denial stage with big business in the governments ears. Remember 10 days ago Italy had no known cases of the virus now it's at around 2000 so i think they'll be first to jump.

It's actually unbeleiveable because it's not like they had no warning from what happened in Wuhan and the Chinese screwing up at the start it's like they've learnt zero lessons from that. As you say western governments have completely ignored the WHO's advice. Bizarre

Some people have trouble with this point.

That's what South Korea said, they just told the whole country to stay inside this weekend. They are talking about using stadiums as temporary hospitals now too. Who'd have thought it 2 weeks ago?

Germany called it the beginning of an epidemic after 20 cases. People can't see the inevitable.

Currently, the best estimate of mortality rate for coronavirus is about 2.3% which is much greater than the flu. It could be more or it could be less given time but nobody doubts it is much deadlier than the flu. Its infection rate is 2.2 which is greater than the flu. If governments were to treat it like the flu then it would cause havoc. That's why governments are so stringent in their reaction.

    No seriously?

This epitomises the level of retardness we are dealing with and why the need to know basis is the right path.

    It's not a static risk.
What was the risk in Italy 6 weeks ago? What is it today?

Measurement of the risk of an infectious disease by current count in this country is neither here nor there. Why was the rugby match cancelled if the risk was only 0.00001%?
Why take any measures whatsoever for 0.00001%?

The current risk may be what you say.

However, if lets say 5,000 people travel (probably a bit generous) from Italy travel to the match and a couple of them have coronavirus and they spread it to a few in the stadium. The few in the stadium return home on a bus to Galway, Cork etc... you get the idea

Cancel the match to reduce risk.
