The common cold can cause pneumonia in older people. My grandmother spent 2 months on life support because of it.

Right, and this virus is MUCH more likely to cause pneumonia.

Where are they trying to hide it?

They sent a letter to everyone in the school.

And then didnt release the name. To the media, im not saying they are trying to hide anything their actions just look like they are.

    That is simply not true.
Some people get pneumonia...that is not a cold...Jesus Christ.
Also old people are fecking people as well!

Older people seem to be harder hit by it but plenty of younger people have been killed from it as well.
Less than 0.2% of deaths have been from people < 20 years old.

We just did a roundup of all the hand sanitizer we panic bought when swine flu was threatening. I could make millions on the black market.
Er I hate to break it to you but it does go out of date...

Only 100s of students, then take there families into account.. have fun avoiding it! Its irrelevant information to most people, and wont be of any use.

And zero deaths under ten thankfully. Its one of the puzzling points researchers are studying. It doesn't seem to affect kids and teenagers as much for whatever reason.

Panic sets in when people believe the authorities are not in control (whether that's true or not)

Panic sets in when people believe something is being hidden

Panic sets in when social media is allowed to control the narrative.

The HSE need to be upfront, strong and firm in their communication. Hiding things that cannot stay hidden doesn't fulfil this criteria

They are. But just because its not what you or others consider enough, doesn't make them wrong or incompetent.

An all boys secondary school in Navan had a skiing trip to Italy last week and 3 teachers had dinner with a later confirmed case.

They phoned the HSE when back and they were advised to still go to school.

The school itself doesn't even have soap in the bathrooms half of the time.

My source is a relative who is a teacher there.

I'm an ex-student of that school. I am not surprised about the no soap thing.

I don’t agree. If you’re in Donegal it’s pretty irrelevant; if you live around the corner from that school I’d say it’s very relevant to you.

WHAT scaremongering?! I keep this word and 'hysteria' thrown about yet I've literally only seen one post out of thousands that would remotely match this description.

    No harm in being prepared.

See I don't get this. If the supply chains are so crippled that food is that scarce what exactly will keep the electricity grids and power stations going? And keep all that frozen food useful.

They can afford Italian skiing trips but not soap?

Well the parents fork out for that

As an aside, I wonder what effect extremes of temperatures have in the virus. I know it’s theorised that higher temperatures effect it, but what about freezing ones?
