The big news today is those figures out of Italy particularly the northern regions.

    Extraordinary.

Something is going to have to be done in terms of Italy's borders.

Anyone seeing any shops start looking fairly bare - was in lidl in Carlow yesterday - place looked like it needed a restock in parts, is this normal or does it look like people are starting to panic?

My son goes to school in Bray and a different school (pres) recently came back from a ski trip. One of the lads in my sons class his little brother was on the ski trip with pres. If any of the pres students get Covid 19 you can be guaranteed there will be other schools tied up in it.
Starting to consider keeping him home (but not convinced yet)

What nonsense. They should *all* be told to do this.

"Students at the school are being told to self-isolate at home if they start presenting symptoms."

Watching the rte news - it says risk of infection is low. Is this coming from the HSE? How can they say this when the figures are doubling around Italy, France, Germany?

Sorry just for anyone who missed it, School is Scoil Cathriona, St Mobhi Road, Dublin 9. Next door to Na Fianna.

    Its a disgrace Joe!

Surely the student that has it has been in contact with many people outside of the school? In shops, on public transport, friends from other schools?

Yes, and was he back in school for all of last week, in contact with perhaps 100s of other students

We're not, no country has been until it's too late and they realise the consequences with their own eyes.

Yoiu know, vitnam was pretty good, bt half the country was in hot weather at the time.

Very strange move announcing it as a "school in the east".

As if it wasn't going to be all over social media within 10 minutes of the texts being sent out

Got a text from my daughters school, its closed for next two weeks. Scoil Cathriona, St Mobhi road if anyone has kids going there.

Did the school take a skiing trip recently? If so, surely they wasn’t the only ones on the plane.

Also, have they advised whether you, the parents, should go to work/carry on as normal?

A doubling of cases just involves each infected person infecting 1 other person. That's not necessarily highly infectious.

The parents of these kids are not isolated?

That's simply unfeasible for a very many people.

It's also what the WHO recommends after investigating in China. Some **** has been going down. Other countries have locked down, South Korea told the whole country to stay in this weekend. They can't afford to lock down - obviously many of problems with it - but it only dawns on them that they have to after things get out of control.

They laugh at civil liberty controls in China yet they won't name the school, complete joke.

I think so too, everyone around that school knows, are they supposed to keep their mouths shut? They will like fúck. It's pointless and only helps to add to the hysteria. They can show footage of a school in London which had to close on the 6.1 News but they can't do it for a school here.
Keeping people in the dark is not the way to deal with this.

RTE is not an independent or impartial news source.

Every other country is being much more specific precisely to avoid the speculation and rumours and feelings that people are not being given truth.

Yet here in Ireland...it makes no sense.

The rate of transmission is currently estimated to be between r2 and r3 but those numbers are subject to increases, due to all of Europe's current inability to contain the outbreak.
