No where has it stated it is a pupil.

    Only one case

The Irish Times did but sure I've no idea now whether it is the same case or not. It's just all so badly reported with different info depending on what newspaper article you read.

I presume the school lad in hospital wasn't on his own during the trip to Italy? Was it a school trip? Are there any more students affected? Did he and other students come back from Italy and go to school or were they asked to self isolate coming from the airport?

Surely if we're serious about containing this we should close all schools for the next two weeks and have people work from home?

This is why the limited detail the HSE and that dope Dr Holohan is trying to defend has made their stance into an absolute farce. Only leading us to be frustrated and looking at further rumours and speculation, only adding to the distrust and lack of confidence in the health system we have.

The vagueness of all this is utterly deplorable. The speculation isn't helping anything or anyone!

This is the Irish way - to hide unpleasantness and pretend it doesn't exist. It's up there with holding an inquiry into the children's hospital cost blow out with the strict instruction that no one is to be named or blamed.

We saw this in the dirty deal to cover-up the 'unpleasantness' of child molestation and other such crimes by the catholic church and legislation to ring-fence the church from being sued by victims. And the delighted church still hasn't paid up to the government for this amazing nonsense.

It's also is at the root of Ireland's over-the-top libel laws.

A dangerous mind-set when trying to stop a pandemic.

I thought the man diagnosed a few days ago was from Northern Ireland, if so isn’t this case announced last night a separate case the first in the republic ;this person from the school.Open to correction of course.

Yes they are separate. A woman in Northern Ireland and a student from the republic . Two cases on the island

Inevitable I would have thought, the closing of schools where pupils show symptoms and have returned from the Red Zone in Italy. Probably more to come.

Seems it is a school in Glasnevin although I think I skimmed a post that said some College in Bray.

Anyhow, I'm sure this is a worrying development for the families teachers and pupils of that school. No doubt the word will be out on FB Instagram and TikTok within a few minutes. Unless all their phones have been confiscated or something.

Wish all well, and batten down the hatches.

They laugh at civil liberty controls in China yet they won't name the school, complete joke.

Might have been an idea to stop those flights a week ago but sure we can't be doing anything too radical or proactive.
The flights are still running even now to Italy and back.

I have a trip to Italy booked for mid April.
Id prefer they cancel all flights to and from Italy so people can get refunds etc.

You won't know, because the authorities won't tell you - it's all expert advised best practice intended to stop rumour, speculation and panic setting in.

It's working out well, isn't it?

This is why people should be sure of what they are saying before jumping on here. this is how hysteria starts, hysteria is more dangerous than Covid -19

Google tells me that's Scoil Chaitríona, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.

I don’t understand the reluctance to name the school. There is no way that all the students and parents are going to keep it to themselves.

We're not, no country has been until it's too late and they realise the consequences with their own eyes.

They're probably waiting until all parents and staff have been notified, to be fair.

What if some of them are on 2 weeks in Torremolinos? Will the rest of us have to wait until they are back?

That's simply unfeasible for a very many people.

This is awful news how it was a school student who caught the virus. But if they were away, there will be alot more students in the next few weeks. Potentially a whole school, pupils and teachers could have caught this virus, went home to their families. Just how much needs quarantine? Parents of students going into work and going about their daily business, have they been carrying the virus around with them?

So leave numerous school kids in Italy on their own, without parents, for an indefinite period of time? Ridiculous idea.

Surely the student that has it has been in contact with many people outside of the school? In shops, on public transport, friends from other schools?

id imagine to stop people rushing their kids to A&E over headlines before theyve had an actual sit down and read the letter with advice of what to actually do.

Worrying time for you, and thank you for the information. Hope all tests prove negative.

Unbelievable that the HSE or whoever is in charge of information don't realise that it is virtually impossible to keep information under wraps anymore.

Wishing you and the school all the best.

I've a friend who was asked to self quarantine and wfh for two weeks after their child came back from Italy last week.

It was his company who insisted though
