Or a teacher in the school. That school is an all girls school so the confirmed case must have been a teacher.

It;s not an all girls school.

    It's not, it's mixed.

Can the title of this thread be changed to reflect the fact that the 2nd case in Rep if Ireland has now been confirmed as secondary school pupil + school to close for 2 weeks.

Has there been a second confirmation?

Journal.ie has said the school closure is linked to the 1st confirmed case. I'm putting 2+2 its a teacher at that school

The case is linked to the school 1+1=1 in this case

Ok I'm totally confused now. The first case was supposed to be a 'man'. Then they were saying that the school was closed due to teenager testing positive for virus.

Surely that's 2 different people or else poor reporting.

Jesus why dont they just give us more details instead of everything been cloak + dagger!

It’s Saying they are the first person here to test positive so that the person co formed yesterday and they are now just telling us they are a student and the school is closing still only one co formed case

Many students are 18 years old , those people are both 'men' and 'students'

Last Wednesday, an email went to all staff about a child who was back from one of the places in Italy and was asked to stay home. Was in school for 2 days. Haven’t had anymore info and don’t even have hand sanitizer. Getting kind of worried now.

For now according to any sources I can find, it's one case. Student at the school, so the school closes. Sensible precautions.
There will be more cases in the same group. It was a school tour. Expect a small outbreak.
Hopefully the HSE/HPSC are telling them all to stay isolated.

This is not unexpected but the HSE need to start being much more transparent. Dr. Holohan not inspiring confidence either by continually touching his face while telling everyone to practice good hygeine.

Hey folks, did you know influenza kills roughly a thousand times more Americans each year than Ted Bundy did. Hysterics

Might have been an idea to stop those flights a week ago but sure we can't be doing anything too radical or proactive.

I wonder will there be more cases from other schools in Ireland who also went skiing in that area of Italy

I thought the man diagnosed a few days ago was from Northern Ireland, if so isn’t this case announced last night a separate case the first in the republic ;this person from the school.Open to correction of course.

We are being deliberately given crooked information, the school should be publically named so people exposed to people from there can take precautions. Trying to protect the tourism industry at the expense of the nations health, sickening.

Do the families of all the students also self isolate? It is an impossible situation.

Letter from the HSe (allegedly) naming the school is circulating on facebook

Couldn't leave a group of Irish students stuck in Italy?

A school in the east of the country with 400 pupils is to close for two weeks after one of its students was confirmed as having the coronavirus.

The teenager, who is the first person in the Republic to test positive for the virus, became ill in recent days after returning from Italy and is in isolation in Dublin hospital.

Probably a male pupil. Hence first confirmed case in the Republic.

    Hello all
It has come to our attention that a 1st Year student visited an Italian region during midterm that is now subject to quarantine restrictions due to Covid 19 virus. There is no indication that the student was directly in contact with any infected person whilst there. As a precautionary measure, this student has been advised to remain at home until we get clarification re a return to school date. I have attached HSE information sheets for your attention.
Students should be reminded of good respiratory/hand hygiene practices in relation to coughing/sneezing/handwashing.
I will keep you updated on any developments.
