Does Ireland currently have any other suspected cases? Were all the school children on the ski trip tested negative?

I don't think they where all even tested tbh. Open to correction on that.

The Irish way is far better but as usual, naysayers that simply cannot say a good word about this country will spread fake bullsh1t

In your example, a flight number and ferry number and date was given out. They then have to hope that everyone on those forms of transport will see this notice

The way they are doing it here is miles better. THEY make direct contact with each and every person that was on the modes of transport. Either by telephone for those in immediate area and by email for those further away.

They are not relying on hoping people will read some notice on some website.

But to give credit to the local team would cause severe hardship to the catastrophic syndrome naysayers.

It’s weird that they have the contact details of people on buses and trains.

For anyone who can’t get hand gel you can make your own with vodka and carrier oil plus some aloe Vera gel. Recipes are online. Just thought I’d mention this as I went to pick up some hand gel locally for an elderly friend and sold out of course. I suggested this course of action to them and might make some myself also. The little bottles with the spray top or dispenser are usually sold in chemists or places like dealz , travel size bottles and I’m sure the mixture would work well in these. If anyone has made it would be good to hear.

Vodka alone wouldn't be strong enough to kill virus but diluted again with oil and aloe Vera makes it even weaker.

18 more cases in Spain brings the total to 76

Germany now has 117 cases and France has 100, Scandinavia 34 ,United Kingdom 35, still just a handful of cases outside of these areas in Europe totalling about 30 or so
That is extremely fast growth outside Italy

What a waste of vodka - just use soap to clean the virus from your hands

I admire your initiative but caveat to this - Vodka and almost all spirits readily available is only 40% alcohol, CDC recommends alcohol hand gels above 60% as being more reliably effective (and soap and water more reliable still).

This was discussed before so apologies for repeating. Some brands of vodka e.g. polish brands are above 80%, failing that poitin! Put vitamin e in mix of you can as poitin can be harsh on skin. Hopefully stocks will be replenished with deliveries to business this week.

You do one or the other - wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol based product when its not possible to wash your hands

The cynical side of me thinks this is being downplayed by the authorities.

Paddys Day is a huge contributor to the economy and if they were to cancel would SME's and other interested parties look to Government for payment/compensation.

I visited my parents and they are saying 'sure they said its just like a cold on the TV'

So this message being given is being accepted by alot of people. I tried to explain its not just like a cold and especially given one of them would be immuno comprimised.

Sanitizing viruses need to be done with 60%+ alcohol
In industry they use 70% IPA

Vodka is 40% alcohol max proof in Ireland and that’s before you start diluting it with gel and aloe Vera. It could be a placebo

If using home made sanitizer you need to make sure you’re not overly relying on it and make sure you avoid touching your face with your hands until you properly wash them with soap and water

The Vodka would have to be 70% proof, most are 35-40%, although someone did say they had some Polish vodka that is 80%.

(I just can't imagine why anyone would want to drink anything that strong. Green Chartreuse at 55% is my limit)

Massive worry alright. I've got my parents who are both in their 80's all i can if they have to stay in the house for an extended period but there is nothing any of us can do about a medicine stortage.

I think there is a concerted effort to supply essential medications. Parkinson's meds, epileptic meds, antibiotics will be prioritised over say... Sildenafil.

2 of the 3 new cases in Czech Republic were infected in Italy, no info about the third as yet.

Italy must have many tens of thousands of infected for so many incidental exposures to tourists and travellers to occur

This occurred to me a few days ago. On one level it's scary but on the other it's kind of consoling that they've had so few fatalities out of all those cases (I can't believe a fairly open liberal country could be covering up deaths on any serious scale)

Could isopropanolol be used to make homemade sanitizer?

Would be a great time to stand outside Aldi selling little bottles of hand sanitizer black market out of your jacket.
    Stand there shouting “pandemic,PANDEMIC”.
Fans of the wire tv show will understand.

Gotta get those WMDs. Them knock you on your ass.

You say you work in the HSE so can you tell us if because of the chance of a hard brexit is there a possible over supply of vital meds within the health sector at present? What im asking in a round about way is have we been stockpiling?

An RTE article my mother showed me stated chance of infection was low.

She is now of the thinking its all over blown hype...shes in the demographic that hasnt been too lucky with Covid19

The reason they are not looking to cancel the St Patrick's Festival is because the risk of infection is absolutely miniscule at the moment. One guy in Ireland has the virus : the other five million haven't got it.

You really believe only 1 person out of 5 million is carrying the virus right now

That's what worries me the most, the underplaying of the situation by the government in order to prevent panic will do more harm than good.

I'd be willing to bet my life savings on there being at least a dozen cases here that just haven't been identified yet.

The hysteria is mostly limited to the internet. Would you even know there was a 'pandemic' occurring if you were walking around the streets of Irish cities, I would say not, maybe if you happened to glance at a tabloid news rack in a supermarket

Don’t know about that hand gel sold out everywhere in my town and vit c tabs disappearing too. I know three people from different families who have cancelled cruises two elderly and one younger. The worry is that there is no vaccine for this which is not the case with the regular flu.

I posted earlier about petrol pumps and the health hazard they are and low and behold just a short time ago was pulled in at a petrol station and saw a young lad out with a spray bottle of disinfectant, wearing gloves cleaning the petrol pumps. I had a moment where I thought the petrol station must be reading boards ..but seriously I think people are clued in about this even outside of social media and are being proactive which is good to see.

    We’re not in Poland
The maximum strength of spirits on sale legally in Ireland is 40%

If you want to make your own sanitizer spray, buy rubbing alcohol, it’s typically 70% isopropyl Alcohol and you could still be able to get it from a pharmacy Or you can order it online

    https://www.killerinktattoo.ie/killer-ink-1l-rubbing-alcohol-contains-70-isopropyl-alcohol?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1-3yBRCmARIsAN7B4H3toJGSP2-zDO0ucoDIk8aJbjGNNXnSrEmKvBi1Rpi2W65rS_jHi6caAtjWEALw_wcB

Just spray the Alcohol onto a tissue and use it to wipe your hands or surfaces.

Alcohol proof is not the same as %. E.g. 70 proof ≈ 40%

There isn't a stockpile. Also, the HSE would have a different supply chain compared to community pharmacy.

If things got really bad which I suspect they won't. Hospitals would be prioritised over community pharmacies.
