I'm just sharing, I've been following these threads and thought people might like to know.

I think we've a right to transparency as well.

Anyway, it might not even come to light but no harm in being aware.

    Absolutely thanks for sharing.

Couldn't find hand sanitizer anywhere in the shops. Have an awful habit of buying travel sized hand sanitizers and never using it. Found a few bottles of them with 62% alcohol. Should this help me if I'm using public transport, after touching door handles in public places and anytime I can't wash my hands?

Odds of you catching it from a door handle are slim but yes the sanitizer will work

Flights should be stopped from Italy now. Yes they can come in other ways but it reduces the risk

It would make no difference at this point. That should have been done a week ago.

It's very likely many of us are already infected so prepare for disruption to life.

    Wow morons in charge

You know better than all the doctors and nurses in the hse do you? Tell us what to do so, oh wise one!

Since they’re morons I guess you won’t be going to them if you get sick?

I still don't understand the secrecy of the details from the government in this case. They will be in contact with all people in due course who have been in contact. Meanwhile, they continue to live life as normal, potentially spreading the virus.

    Why can't they just say:
Patient travelled on 09:45 Aer Lingus service from Milan to Dublin.
Patient than got the 13:25 X service from the airport to home.

If you were on either of these services, lease ring X and your options will be explained.

That's a simple way if reducing the potential spread

i think normal soap and water for 30 seconds is as effective as anything else,

I normally don't have the use of soap and water coming straight of a bus.

    Wow morons in charge

Look at our health service ffs. These clowns have spent the last week telling people not to panic instead of making hundreds of beds available and getting in extra ventilators etc...

Telling people not to panic won't save lives, taking action will.

If there is somewhere that you can wash your hands when out and about.

Despite what people say, masks are effective, in so far as they stop the wearer from touching their own face....something we do automatically......

Stopping flights is not necessarily the most effective thing to do, another poster made a good point on this issue in the Aviation thread:-
    martinsvi wrote: »
banning a flight to a specific region is not effective - people still need to travel and they will find a way to get going. Globally speaking, you are better off getting people from A to B as quickly as possible, rather making them jump hoops and loops just to get to their destination - less exposure to other people.

Same thing with taking temperature - costs a lot, return for value quite small due to nature of the virus and people taking drugs to push the temperature down. People who care about their health and those around them will self report to medics. People who don't care of either will find a way to sneak by.

it is likely that virus is already in Ireland, it's just that symptoms might be mild enough for people carrying on with their lives without realizing they are sick. Another problem is the hysteria in Teneriffe - with all the lock downs and everything, I honestly believe people are more likely to hide the issue out of fear of overreaction

Why has there not been a single death of anyone under 9 yrs old? (Thankfully!) I would have assumed babies are susceptible?

Use the Ayliffe Technique or as theyre now calling it the WHO technique. Either way it is what I was taught when training to be a nurse.

Given what is viewed on thread as massive inaction by the government over last week, it'd be quite the turnaround to shut up the whole shop over 1 confirmed case.

1 goes to 20 fairly quickly as we have seen. That has been how it has played out so will be no different here.

Use the sanitizer. It's certainly not going to do you any harm. I'm a bit concerned about the train as well so i will be using mine. Especially after touching hand rails. People are filthy. Not covering their mouths when the cough.

Dont touch the windows. People often rub the condensation off windows to see out but it contains germs

Note: Most likely a rumour. This highlights the face we need proper reporting, we don't need exact location details but a broad assessment would be suited, like in the UK.

Why can’t they disclose the location in the East of the case. Yes the HSE have said they are going to contact the people the patient had been in contact with but seriously ... unless this person is a hermit they like the rest of us come in contact with various people going about their day from supermarket to petrol station etc etc I understand it would probably cause mass panic but at least they could give the county which would enable people to be more vigilant there re hand washing, not coughing into the air or their hands etc. Anothet thing is to disinfect hands after using or use hand gel is after using petrol pump. Don’t always do it myself but going to from now on think of all the hands that have previously used the pump.

Wear thin disposable gloves when you are out and avoid touching your face,

The government should be putting out videos like this on TV and online. Simple measures go a long way to preventing infection

The German public protection office recommended following supplies to last 10 days per person. Note it is not directly related to coronavirus but general advice to be prepared for natural disasters and what not:
    - 20 l water
    – 3,5 kg carb source (potato, rice, pasta, flour)
    – 2,5 kg dried or canned fruit and nuts
    – 4 kg canned vegies
    – 2,6 kg milk or milk products
    – 1,5 kg meat, eggs or egg powder
    – 0,4 kg fats and oil

This should provide roughly 2200 kcal/day for 10 days

Because people would be stunned at how many people they've already been in contact with who have the virus and despite no negative symptoms would lock themselves down, and so on and so on.

Unless this is the most contagious disease of all time, most people would be better off not knowing they're not a carrier because the panic caused by everybody being known as a local contagion would be much worse than what's going on now.

Closing is a strong word, but significant travel restrictions (particularly from the most affected areas/countries but not only) certainly slows down propagation in a country (it is clear from new cases this week that Italy is now acting as a contamination hub in Europe).

And it is not just the fact that people are have been to a known cluster - when you are travelling you also tend to be confined with others in small spaces for hours (planes/trains) and to come across a lot more different people the in daily life (in airports, stations, restaurants, tourist sights, etc), increasing chances of contamination.

Restrict Northern Italy and people are just going to find an alternative route. Usually air travel offers the most direct route so you’ll have fewer touch points for spread. Force people to take trains, buses, and then an onward flight are you’re asking for trouble.

Most businesses have already banned employees travelling to affected areas.
