I can't remember where I saw it (pretty sure it was a reputable source though) that only 4% of sufferers have upper respiratory tract symptoms, so blowing his nose would suggest it's more likely just a cold? Though the dead ambassador isn't a good sign..

I would think so. Just a coincidence.

Yup - you can't claim on your travel insurance unless its an official "do not travel" government notice (I suspect it will be for Milan before they travel FWIW).

British Airways have cancelled flights to Milan.

The Pope probably has a cold if his nose is running, but he is in a high-exposure job and a high-risk age group. Just imagine having to convene a conclave of elderly cardinals in the middle of a pandemic!

If he posted a link to the briefing, it would be more useful than his synopsis tweets, though obviously not in his twitter interests. Anyone manage to find the link?
    Nvm, found it

HSE doing a live briefing, have to say very informative and good info, Richard Chambers doing a good synopsis https://twitter.com/newschambers/status/1233040419660931073?s=20

From Richard Chambers take on the HSE live briefing...

"There is no clear case of transmission from people who do not have symptoms."

    Dr Sarah Doyle, HSE.

That is factually incorrect... See the British super spreader.

Still doesn't seem to be huge amounts of information coming from China.

Wuhan is on lock down 5 weeks now, yet cases are still being diagnosed albeit on a lower scale than at the start of all this.

Still nearly 95% of all cases (and deaths) are in China.

Just curious how long they expect the lock down to go on for.

They also tweeted "its a global health emergency of international concern", that was announced a month ago.

If the Chinese have to annihilate Wuhan to contain this, they will.

If it wasnt so scary it would be impressive.

    How can they say

'' it's only like the flu, the flue kills 600,000 a year'' and say it like it's a good thing?

So should we expect 600,000 or more deaths?

Any one get the wats ap message going around 27 different videos from the streets of China,

Its like something from a end of days movie, people in haz suits with guns on the streets , people in chains being lead to van's by people in full haz suits , Bodies on the floor in airports and trains stations just being walked past, The spraying the streets in a huge mist ,

Well to be fair, I heard a report couple of weeks back that the seasonal flu bug has killed 84 people in Ireland this winter alone.

So the question is, why aren't we in a state of panic over the ordinary flu? It kills plenty of people every year, but its not as sexy or news worthy as some mad virus from China, is it?

Yes it looks like the situation in China is getting worse not better like some people think

Its like pulling out the old car deaths versus anything else. People get used to static risks and accept that life isn’t risk free. People rightly don’t like additional risks especially if there are steps that can be implemented to eliminate them. To eliminate the risks from regular flu would make life intolerable.
