Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I did, she's kinda a big deal in Cork. I think she has a few All Irelands to her name.

    Rousey
    Mayweather
    McGuigan
    McGregor
    Taylor
    Collins
    Pacquiao
    Joshua

A lot of love for a few entrants in this round with Rousey, Pacquiao and Collins all scoring heavily

Two aces available here too with Mayweather (ShaneU)and Taylor (Spook_ie)! Really surprised by this but again must have been tactical decision making.

Anthony Joshua was surprisingly not selected by anyone.

Matt Dawson shown a lot of love in this round. I actually only really know him from Question of Sport!

Campese and Pienaar provided aces in this round for Zaph and Barney92!

Not really a sport I follow so I'd have struggled to pick a randomer in this round myself

I think Zaph's ace has created an unassailable lead going into the final round but stranger this have happened

Barney92's ace all but guarantees geotrig the wooden spoon.

Baaaaah!!!! Why didn't I pick my one true love, Joshua! Thought he was just too TOO obvious. It really is harder when you know them all. :( Who did Zaph pick . I forgot to check....

Edit: the same as me. That softens the blow a small bit. :D

    Zaph picked Collins too

I thought Collins was a bit obscure and if you weren't sure he could second guess yourself that he was Caruth (which my wife did when I asked her to pick her selections!)

I was hoping there might be some youngsters who wouldn't know him but I suspect your profiling was about right.

    Golf

    Woods
    Duffner
    McIlroy
    Kaymer
    Norman
    Langer
    Harrington
    Faldo

Tiger Woods led the charge here with 7 votes which was the only one I'd say went to the most famous candidate

Jason Dufner and Bernhard Langer the only aces in this round for Scorpian Sting and BuileBeag

The only hope for ShaneU based on the above is that Zaph got his answer wrong in this round

I was hoping there might be some youngsters who wouldn't know him but I suspect your profiling was about right.

My thought process was to pick people I knew which meant 90s sport stars onwards with the exception of Schumacher in the football, etc who had a back story that caught my attention at some stage.

I didn't know what every person looked like but would know who they are and what they are famous for on a name basis

Zaph selected Kaymer, which as this is a correct answer means he cannot be caught. Congratulations to Zaph who showed remarkable consistency throughout with a total score of 28 (averaging less than 3 in one of these is certainly not easy!)

Geotrig ends up with the wooden spoon!

It was hard to bring too much excitement into the reveal as the gap never closed significantly and the lead never changed from Round 1.

    Congrats Zaph! Great reveal lassykk.

As someone who knows very little about sports, I'm surprised I did as well as I did - defentitely thought I would be in contention for the Wooden Spoon, and definitely thought I'd have more than one incorrect answer. If I had even known the names of any Dart players I could've potentially landed on a right answer (it worked for 1 or 2 of the other rounds anyway), but alas it wasn't to be. Look forward to another Sports one - the comps where you know very little to begin with are great fun to take part in.

    Congrats Zaph. Great peehsing throughout.

Thanks for running lassy. I'll forgive you for spelling my username wrong. ;)

Disappointed with myself for thinking Mary Pierce was Petra Kvitova as I'd watch a good bit of tennis.

I've started compiling a list for another version sometime in the future but I sense it might eliminate those with limited sports interest as I've picked a lot of the most famous from each category already.

I've a WWE round now and I'm open to suggestions for other sports too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,603 ✭✭✭lassykk

I'm going to mix the "harder" sports into 4 & 4 to give people a chance if they don't know one sport they might know someone in the other

damn crap scoring by me, missed the reveals as was tied up :(
some of those answers !!!I had contemplated changing to schmcher for the football but just wasn't sure, taught his hair was too light and was tempted to change to langer also.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more!

But I toyed with the idea in this version and for the want of a category it's going into version 2.

It requires high levels of athleticism so it's close enough for this ;)

Blew it at the end again. With an average of less than 3 points per answer I don't think anyone else was in the running for this one though. Congrats Zaph and thanks lassy.

Really enjoyed that, thanks for running it lassykk. I have to admit I did get lucky with GAA and rugby, ordinarily I'd be looking blankly at all 8 pics in each.

He's famous for this which didn't even warrant a free kick back in the 80s!

I remember watching that match so well. I love how the title of the clip says "collision", when it was a full-blooded assault. Battiston ended up losing teeth, having several cracked ribs and damaged vertebra. It's a miracle he was able to continue playing football after it.

It was before my time but was an unbelievable assault and to make matters worse he didn't even get a free kick. Apparently offered to pay for Battistons dental work afterwards. What a top notch guy!
