The Sunday Times is reporting that the British couple, the Abel’s, who were on the cruise ship off the coast of Japan are in a bad way with pneumonia in a Japanese hospital. They are elderly and had been celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and were the ones who were live posting while in quarantine. Dreadful stuff.Hope they will recover.

They should sue, they were fine, but getting trapped on that ship will probably kill them. Who ever was brining them food so on must have infected them. I would have gotten off that ship, they played it so so nice, like they were immune and took joy in there 5 minutes of fame '' won't happen to us''

Girl I used to work with was married to an Italian she maintained he was an absolute hypochondriac, tablets, doctor and home in bed for the least thing. She said many were like him, have no idea if this is really true but maybe their vigilance now with the confirmed cases could help to stop the spread further across Europe.

It's probably true. I read the same thing from a BBC correspondent based in Italy recounting what life was like there.

    Found it: https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-15987082

What’s the overall stats from that ghost ship?

Only 2 deaths from the cruise so far, god willing, hopefully not more. What age are you tomlie?

As fingers get pointed at the nearby Virology research lab as a possible source, a Chinese paper pops up, saying no, no, the virus did not come from there, it came from waaaay over there.

    How convenient.

A 20-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan travelled hundreds of miles to another city where she is believed to have infected five relatives without showing signs of infection, scientists in China have said, offering fresh evidence that the new coronavirus can be spread asymptomatically.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/22/coronavirus-asymptomatic-wuhan-woman-shows-why-outbreak-will-be-hard-to-stop

The new quarantine period may/will be moved to 28 days.

A 70-year-old man in China's Hubei Province was infected with coronavirus but did not show symptoms until 27 days later, the local government said on Saturday, meaning the virus' incubation period could be much longer than the presumed 14 days.

    Time to shut all boarders,

Why not? The update was only for the period shortly after midnight on 23/02, it did not reflect the whole day.
On 22/02 there were 630 new cases and 96 new deaths in Hubei province.

I have jumped from just a 10m diving board, and I can tell you, if you don't hit the water dead straight, the bit of you that slaps the water hurts like stink. One time the impact was on my back and the pain was like a big electric shock.

From 50m you would hit the water doing 113 kph

very worrying from a Dr John video.

he heard from a Iranian colleague that the Fatality Rate in Iran is much higher than 2%.

He talks about Ethiopian Airlines continuing to fly in and out of China largely on the advice of the World Health Organisation - that such flights are believed not to constitute a significant risk. Imho Heads in WHO are going to roll for that - as unfortunately WHO have openly provided open access into African countries such as Ethiopia simply to keep the Chinese state happy. It is also true that medical supplies could still be transported via dedicated flights despite the WHO's claims.

    Great work lads....

A national system to control biosecurity risks must be put in place “to protect the people’s health,” Xi said, because lab safety is a “national security” issue.

Xi didn’t actually admit that the coronavirus now devastating large swathes of China had escaped from one of the country’s bioresearch labs. But the very next day, evidence emerged suggesting that this is exactly what happened,

    Really Xi Jinping, really?

    Time to shut all boarders,

They won't. Even countries like Australia and New Zealand that really are in a good position to seal their borders, never will. The pervasiveness of modern air travel makes pandemics inevitable and unstoppable.

I think he might have been focusing on the airline's finances. And money might have been involved elsewhere...

    In other news:
More than 30 new cruise ships to launch in 2020

Progress being made on the vaccine.......

Researchers at the University of Queensland (UQ) have said they are just days away from testing a new vaccine for coronavirus, or COVID-19, on animals.

    Don't get too complacent .....

"It is not a race between vaccine producers, it is a race against this particular virus".

"It is a new territory for vaccine design. Vaccines take many years to develop from concept to licence and use in the community.

"What we are aiming for is somewhere between 12 and 18 months, which is remarkably quick."

Dr Young said the UQ team had developed 100 different versions of a protein to work out which would be most effective against the virus.

He said they now planned to conduct pre-clinical trials (including animal testing) and hoped to undertake human trials by the middle of the year.

Besides the measures in the hotbed towns, the Italian government has suspended all sports events today (Sunday) in Lombardy, universities are closed for the week, school trips both domestic and foreign have been cancelled and the hospitals where the virus was found are being closed.

It's impossible to find protective facemasks in either pharmacies or DIY stores and pharmacies have signs up saying that there are no stocks of hand sanitizers. I live in Lombardy and this **** just got real...

I bought 2 masks 3 weeks ago just in case and did a stock up shopping trip on Friday - an all out quarantine is looking more and more likely so tinfoil hats off and facemasks on :D
