Ah no... that is awful. Very sad, RIP.

I have seen it myself at some ranges that people do become a little complacent with firearms, as if "sure im at a shooting range, what could happen here".

There is the possibly that he intentionally shot himself.

    Did you read the article?

"The victim was found dead, having suffered a gunshot wound, by another person who had arrived at the range in Swords on Sunday afternoon."

EDIT: The article is a little hazy. It also states "Gardaí were working on the theory that the man was fatally wounded when alone and that the incident was not noticed for some time."

Very hard to know what happened.

The article is a bit ambiguous.

To me that reads that the other person found the body, but they did not shoot them. The comma between "wound" and "by" makes it read this way. The other person had just arrived and found the body on arrival.

What were the deceased circumstances does anyone know?

Folks, a little more sensitivity to the family and a little less speculation for the moment please. There'll be time enough to figure out what happened and what, if anything, needs to be done as a result of this.

As someone who has suffered personally from a suicide in the family (an all too common occurance in Ireland), one of the aspects i found the most upsetting and disagreeable, was people speculating and pry as to why. One twit went so far as to visit the local garda station not once, but three times to find out why, before the sergeant gave him a mouthful. Any berevement is traumatic. So leave it at condolences and the reason doesn't matter.
