    As I've said, you shouldn't be worried about getting it as the danger seems to be the lack of support rather than the disease. So, don't worry about getting it. You'll either get it and be treated, or not and be isolated to have a lower chance of getting it

    What are you worried about? I've been following this quite closely and I would find it hard to feel any anxiety over all this. Not only is it not confirmed whether its a very dangerous disease but theres not even any cases here . I just feel bad for Chinese people, especially if it is much worse for them than is being let on

    Yes but the lower mortality rate combined with the high infection rate is the breeding ground for a mutation.

    By the time Ireland gets sucked into the net this could be much more deadly.

    I’m more alarmed that we in Ireland have not been informed of a Contingency Plan when it reaches our shores.

    I’m also alarmed that it seems that the International Community seems to have turned there backs on China.

    The BBC interview with a Wuhan resident - Uncle dead, father is critical and mother and brother now have symptoms - cannot get any help in the hospital
    Just one family - things like this make me believe the numbers are no way near the real thing

    Becuase of Chinese history, I imagine they would prefer half the population to die than invite a potential invader in to their country.

    There's very different figures coming from Wuhan, and outside Wuhan. In China as a whole, the figures they are reporting are much closer to the international experience of mostly mild illness, and relatively low mortality, if treatment can begin early.

    Inside Wuhan the figures are much more worrying, and it's clear that they are overwhelmed and are only looking after the sickest. Building multiple temporary hospitals to hold the less sick looks like a good strategy, and one which (fingers crossed) indicates that they are getting some level of control after the initial panic.

    There is a lot we can all and each do for ourselves in case this happens? Make sure you have stocks of medications, both prescription and any OTC … Same with food stocks. Basics. And the same for old folk; and fuel. The less you mix with people the better in any outbreak so staying home will help

    Easy for me living out on an island , with no physical human contacts - but with no working immune system the safest of places and chosen deliberately.

    I have masks always as no working immune system and gloves are surely a staple household item.

    The Spanish flu did mutate, but the bad news is that the 2nd wave caused the most damage. The 1st initial outbreak and the ending 3rd major mutation weren't that bad, just the 2nd wave.

    Compared to a couple of weeks ago, it does now all seem surreal.

    Anyway folks, hope for the best, prepare for the worst as they say.
    I.e. Tinned soup x24 packs.

    Also, a stock of long storage antioxidant and inflammatory foods, lemons, and good supply of VitC (with Zinc).

    Cost and time wise, the practical soloution may involve what the americanism known as the 'hack'.

    e.g. DIY substitues involving a bit of creative improvisation to do a similar job.

    I'm not worried about getting it as such, more the sh!t show of our health care system being over whelmed and god knows what else to follow.

    Went to the doctors just to make sure he infected lots of other people - after telling everyone to self isolate and call the doctor

    THere should be proper guidelines issued for hospitals and schools in case of an outbreak here

    The Department of Foreign Affairs advising Irish citizens to be ready to leave China.

    In a change to its existing travel advice, the department says Irish people in China whose continued presence is not essential should “contact their travel agency or airlines regarding available routes out before any further restrictions may be imposed”.

    There certainly are guidelines circulated to all the medical staff of my hospital.

    That probably doesn't fit with the narrative of this thread though.
