In the latest created news story from twitter, colm o rourke is now a ‘homophobe’ for saying the below

If a person isn't going to have the ability to go for a ball and take a chance on hitting somebody, then we'll have nothing in the game. It will be a namby-pamby pansy-boy game and I think none of us want that," he said.

Getting a bit tired of lazy journalists grabbing 2 tweets and creating the news instead or reporting it.

I don't understand. Why does he dismiss the feelings of gays? What gives him the right??

    Where does he do that?

He’s from a different era so probably doesn’t even realise what he’s saying. Couldn’t see him meaning offence and I’d say he won’t say it again.

That said, the way RTE are now and after Brolly, he’ll be gone. We are ruled by the outraged masses these days.

I knew the moment he said it there's be outraged whingers reaching for their smelling salts on twitter.

    Buncha big girls blouses.

"Namby-pamby pansy boy" has nothing to do with gays, it's just a figure of speech for cosseted, effeminate, ineffectual gameplay. Ya big Jessie!

I honestly didn't even know the term had homophobic connotations. I thought it was just used for slagging someone acting delicate or soft.

To be fair, I'm getting the feeling that anyone over 30 is from a different era these days. The world has become far too pc and full of people just seeking to be offended especially with regards to remarks not even directed at them.

Honestly, I don't have a lot of patience for the "sensitive" era we're all supposed to accept. Bugger that. Tip toeing around for fear someone might be offended.. or rather pretend to be offended just so they can virtue signal.

I’d say that’s exactly what he was thinking too.

Honestly didn’t know that it was considered homophobic, mostly because I haven’t heard anyone called a pansy since the late 70s.

Yeah I broke my hole laughing when he said it. You could see Gooch trying his hardest to stay expressionless.

I was waiting for the offended to get offended and hey presto.

David Gough the ref outraged over it on Twitter, naturally. God bless Twitter outrage, we'd be lost without it!

Pansy - Extremely Disparaging and Offensive. a contemptuous term used to refer to a male homosexual.

I'm sure he didn't deliberately set out to say anything homophobic. His comment in its entirety is a good example of toxic masculinity though - the idea that effeminate = inferior. Disappointing attitude from a school principal.

I see you quote one of two slang usages that suits your particular opinion, as one does. And effeminate in this context is inferior on a hurling field. And before you reply with something about ladies GAA, I know all about it, and their gameplay is not effeminate. "Toxic masculinity", in the name a' Jaysis...

    Haha haha

    Toxic masculinity?

This is where the internet is in 2020. Make believe concepts used to fan made up outrage. Internet clearly didn’t get the memo that was sent to Gillette when their customer base largely told them to **** off with their systemic man shaming

You do you Colm lad, you do you.

Colm Cooper has no business struggling with it as he struts around daily owning his nickname taken from that frontier bit between your turkey's neck and your sheriff's badge.

You said the term had "nothing to do with gays". I was merely pointing out that you were wrong, whilst also acknowledging that his intent was probably not homophobic.

He's an educated man. I'm sure it's possible to refer to sporting inadequacies without using the language of toxic masculinity.

It actually hurts at this stage, reading this sort of scutter.

Absolutely nothing homophobic in that comment.

I doubt he meant it as a homophobic slur. Intent and context seem to have gone the way of the dodo.

The funniest thing about this whole faux offended( a opposed to legitimate offense ) is when a celebrity for example get called something or something is said about them and said celebrity doesn't take offence to it. It's funny to see the terminally offended not be able to grasp the fact that celebrity X isn't offended.

My worry is that because there is a mentality of being permanently offended that the moment of actual offense will be washed out and not picked up and rightly called out.

His Toxic masculinity has me literally shaking rn.

Why couldn't he just restrict his commentary and analysis, to wishing that both teams have a good time? I mean in this day and age do we really need to keep score during a game?

Just stick to calling folks cnuts and you'll be grand.

The meaning of pansy has changed from a slur on homosexuals to referring to a weak, soft ****e of a person

The same way idiot and moron were once medical terms for people with intellectual disabilities.

It makes about as much sense as accusing someone of hating on the intellectually challenged by using the word idiot

Maybe read a bit more about the concept of toxic masculinity, albeit with a less incurious mindset. A bit of learning might alleviate the pain.

Did you see the rage towards the guy that played Elton John in his biopic lately cause he wasn't s gay man? According to the Twitter mob a gay guy can only play a gay character

Twas funny to hear Eltons response to Twitter outrsge "it's all bull****"

    :D
