    Your all off your heads.
This virus isn't dangerous, the flu is more dangerous.
People posting about stocking up on food and getting generators are insane.
    Bunch of nutjobs

WHO do not declare the flu to be an international emergency. People stocking up in Ireland are probably nutjobs but it appears to be considerably more dangerous than flu.
Its really just impossible to know right. SWine flu had an initial esimtated death rate of 7%, but then it turned out to be 0.1%, SARS had an initial estimated death rate at 4% or under, but in some countries the death rate turned out to be almost 20%. It takes a long time to confirm , right now with everything so unclear it certainly pays to be safe rather than sorry. But with two thousand hospitalised and 250 killed in China in just a fortnight by a completely unknown virus with no known cure I have no idea why you would be so certain its no more of a threat than the flu.

Reading that article on Why Travel Bans Don’t Work During An Outbreak Like Coronavirus I read:

"Instead, it appears to be a response to xenophobia from the right wing, as Megan Thielkin noted in Stat."

Why do some people like this Megan Thielkin have to make everything political. This virus does not care about race or skin colour. Focusing on public health is more important now than political correctness

Theres a certain amount of people who do not wish to fully comprehend what is unfolding. Maybe this may be an attempt to calm their own fears.
I'm very optimistic that this will be dealt with successfully but let us not bury our heads in the sand

To pass this off with a blanket of "fake" is quite Naive to be fair. The latest one I saw is a woman queing outside a pharmacy, people are clearly in panic and no one will go near her, its shockingly sad and the same amount frightening.

And confirmed by who? Are the government going to come out and say that yer mans video on whatsapp is true? nonesense - Who would you like to "confirm them" ??

On the earlier videos, it is very hard to fake videos of people lying dead on the street while ambulances and emergency services surround them, in full Hazmat gear - unless you believe the paramedics in the videos were in on the "joke"

Your attitude to all the visual evidence we have is extremely blinkered. again i'd love to know who you would like to confirm these viseos!

For a lot of people if it doesn't appear on the BBC, Guardian, CNN or whatever mainstream outlet they watch...then it didn't happen and its fake.

The reality right now is Twitter is miles ahead of the MSM on this issue and you're basically in the dark if you rely on them for your info.

Yeah right travel bans don't work, what they mean to say is that travel bans will cause massive disruption to trade and profits for corporations.

What a ludicrous statement. This is literally many multiple times more dangerous. As Sars was, though the mortality rate was higher for Sars.

Still not sure people collapsing is anything, if this was any other day it would be still happening and no one batting an eyelid
Just in the current climate it is more big news

Cool. I look forwarding to reading your peer reviewed paper explaining how seasonal flu, with a mortality rate of <0.01% and R0 of 1.3 is more dangerous than 2019-nCoV which has a higher R0 and a mortality rate which is 200 times greater.

I hadnt seen either of those - Id love to know what happened - were they fine and just collapsed, are they dead? - They look dead!

Just pretend for one moment this is what happens to some people who contract the virus! Then realise, it possibly is!

Water and electricy will be 99% regardless (mostly remote or automated). Saying that the folks over at the uk's major power plants have recnetly forbidden staff any travel to China, or anyone entry, who's been there recently.

However if you've a carton (not box) of N95's left over from the previous WHO emergency, then you'd be sitting on a very tidy 1,000% or so profit already. A shop over in Liverpool today, was reported to have crowds queueing outside...

As a sidenote, more than 600,000 people are going to die of cancer in the united states this year. I hate to do whataboutery, but it does kind of highlight the oddness of this.

I am not upon figures to be honest but looking at the figures from a few days ago 17% of confirmed cases were very ill with 3% fatal. But these figures are based on the fact that the number of confirmed cases are based on actual cases. So that % is to be diluted.

In other words people who only have minor symptoms and thus did not seek care - would not be included in the overall numbers so the %s are actually smaller.

So as for the seasonal flu? I do not know the global numbers but in the US for example there has been 8200 deaths _this season alone_, And for some reason this number does not seem to be resulting in any public outbreak of fear :) It is not even making people get vaccinated. Golly :)

People collapse all the time in public, heart attack and stroke is pretty damn common. But because of the virus fears, people probably wont go to help them up or touch them because they think theyll catch corona. I really doubt anyone is collapsing from the virus, symptoms develop gradually, youll be in a hospital a while before you die.

Anyway, 2000 new cases confirmed today and 45 more deaths, seems to be the average figures occurring daily for the last couple of days straight now.
